Two important agreements on cooperation of NTUU "KPI" with European universities were signed over past two weeks.
The first was signed on December 8, after the awarding of the rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" academician of NAS of Ukraine Michael Zgurovsky at a meeting of the Senate of Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) the sign of the Honorary Doctor of the University.
Framework Agreement on joint management and provision of a candidate degree (Ph.D.) was signed by Rector of NTUU "KPI" Michael Zgurovsky and Rector of WUT Jan Schmidt. Its aim is to establish the principles of cooperation on joint management of dissertation preparation and common procedures for granting candidate degree (Ph.D.) both universities. The agreement stipulates that graduate (doctoral) will conduct their research under the guidance of two supervisors, one from each university - partner, and graduate student (PhD student) will have to spend at least 18 months at his university and at least 12 months - in University - partner; that the thesis will be conducted in English at a public hearing before the Joint Commission and others.
The second agreement or, more precisely, a memorandum was signed during the Rectors' meeting, which was organized by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, the Conference of Rectors of Germany and the Union of Rectors of Ukraine Universities, which was held in Warsaw on 14 - 15 December. It was signed by Rector of NTUU "KPI" Michael Zgurovsky, president of Magdeburg University Otto-von-Guericke Jens Shtrakelyan and Rector of Wroclaw University of Technology Tadeusz Vyetskovskyy. The heads of the three universities announced that reached an agreement on the establishment of a tripartite joint Department for engineers in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Pursuant to these agreements a working group will be set to develop and prepare the set of documents required for the implementation of this department from 1 September 2015.
This is another step towards establishing direct relationships of teachers, students and Ukraine with their European counterparts.
