Plyhunov Alexander Sergeyevich (1904-1975) - Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (1938-1939), Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology (1939-1941), Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology Central Asian Industrial Institute (1942) , Rector of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (1943-1952), (1955-1971), Head of the Department Inorganic Materials Technology (1943-1975). In 1964 he became a Honored Scientist of the USSR. In 1930 he graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In 1934 he defended his candidate’s thesis. Starting from 1938 he is the Associate Professor, since 1961 - Professor.
The sphere of his scientific activity included the branch of chemical technology of alumina, soda, mineral fertilizers and inorganic salts. Lot of energy he spent to rebuild the Kiev Polytechnic Institute after the occupation of Kyiv and its development in the postwar years.
Eight candidates of sciences were prepared under his guidance.
He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order "Badge of Honor" Cyril and Methodius (Bulgaria), "Rebirth of Poland" medals.
He was the author of over 140 scientific works and inventions. Among them: "Getting alumina from low ammonium-containing ores of Ukraine" (1941), "algorithmic calculations in chemical engineering" (1971), "Development of chemical engineering in Ukraine" (1972).
