To celebrate the 100th anniversary of outstanding rocketry designer Volodymyr Chelomei (17 (30) June, 1914 - 8 December, 1984) NTUU "KPI" organized the ceremony of laying flowers to his memorial.

The bust of Volodymyr Mykolayovych Chelomei is installed on the Walk of outstanding scientists and engineers who have studied or worked at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute".

The flower-laying ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the National Space Agency of Ukraine Yuriy Alekseyev, deputy of Ukraine of VI convocation, President of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Stanislav Dovhyi, Rector of NTUU "KPI", Academician of NAS of Ukraine Michael Zgurovsky, rector of NAU, Professor Sergey Kulyk, Vice-Rector for Research of NTUU "KPI", Academician of NAS of Ukraine Michael Ilchenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations of NTUU "KPI", Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine Sergey Sidorenko, space industry veterans, members of the State Polytechnic Museum of NTUU "KPI" and others.

Academician of the USSR, member of the International Academy of Astronautics, Professor of Bauman University, Twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and three State Prizes of the USSR Volodymyr Mykolayovych Chelomei studied at the faculty of aviation of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (1932) and at Kyiv Aviation Institute opened in 1933 on the basis of this faculty. It was during his studies, when he finally emerged as a personality, engineer and scientist. He created the pulsating air rocket (ramjet) which was installed on a number of aircrafts. As chief designer of OKB-52 Volodymyr Mykolayovych Chelomei designed naval cruise missile with folding wings that allowed to place it in small containers, on submarines as well. Under his leadership, in 1944-1954 several types of cruise missiles with ramjet were designed. In the second half of 1960 Chelomei completed rocket and spacecraft study to fly to the Moon, as well as a test project for an expedition to Mars. He was the first in USSR who put forward and tried to implement the idea of warheads that could separate. Under the leadership of Chelomei launch vehicles and satellites "Proton", "Polit", "Kosmos-1267" space stations "Salut" were designed.
