The problem of demining the territories of Ukraine during the hostilities of 2022-2024 has sharply escalated. Currently, about 30% of Ukrainian territory is mined with explosives, and only 1% has been cleared. Kyiv Polytechnics together with Yuki Sekiguchi, Vice President of Cognitive Research Labs Co., Ltd, discussed joint steps to overcome this problem.

Yuki Sekiguchi noted: "Our main task is to minimize the number of people who can be injured by explosives. The first thing we will work on together with KPI is training in humanitarian demining, organizing scientific research on demining and introducing the latest technologies into mass production."

Japan and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute will focus their efforts on the creation and development of the Center for Humanitarian Demining at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. This center will introduce the first educational program in Ukraine on humanitarian demining, training courses for demining instructors, and create new technologies for mine identification and disposal.

Kyiv Polytechnic and Cognitive Research Labs Co., Ltd. already have a memorandum of understanding on these issues and plan to cooperate to find new innovative solutions in the field of demining. Yuki Sekiguchi is convinced that based on the results of joint activities in the future, KPI will be able to disseminate its experience not only in Ukraine and Europe, but also in Africa.
