Recently, the student club “Guides Club of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” celebrated its first anniversary. Despite a small age and a small number of beginner guides, the club actively pursues interesting trips to the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute for pupils, students, residents of Kyiv and guests of the city. As a head of the club, I would like to thank the most active participants: Skydan Pavlo (TEF), Hordienko Ilona (TEF), Yalovits Vitaliy(XTF), Moseyko Andriy(FL).
The main purpose of creating the club was the desire to tell about historical and modern development of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and people, who studied and taught at the university, to show visitors student’s life and tell about scientific discoveries. “Dream, discover, create” – is a formula for success that we offer pupils to find during their quest-excursion, because we are sure that everything starts with a dream that, by gaining the power of Knowledge and Practice, helps to become a creative person. Great inventors and scientists once have made their way from the dream to its realization. So we also have a dream – excursions, that are able to find new I. Sikorsky, S. Korolev, D. Mendeleev, and therefore to raise engineering and innovation direction of the university’s development. This is why the idea of creating a summer school for applicants as a part of the Techno-Art of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, to show them different faculties and specialties, to give them an opportunity to try their hand in laboratories and master-classes.
In the past year, we had managed to develop three thematic excursions. We organized lectures and talked to Kyiv guides on the creation of non-standard excursions and how to interest modern visitors. The club members will also be told about the history of the city, as it turned out, the best guides on Kyiv are the former students of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, who readily tell about the secrets and interesting places of our capital.
Now there is a discussion among the guides on what is more important: the show or the story? But the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has something to show and tell. As a person, not the head of the club, I note that the most important is Love. All the best that we have is full of love, it is everywhere: attitude to life, to work, to communication, education, relationships with loved ones.
Therefore, to my mind, a good guide – not one who knows a lot… Google also “knows” a lot. The one who truly loves what he is talking about, the one whose eyes shine, is able to interest, the one who is inspired by the world is able to inspire others.
