When I first heard about the enhanced scholarships in KPI, I didn't pay special attention to it , just thought, "I wish I could pass the first examination." Soon the head the student council  offered me to highlight the achievements of our IEE students and talk about the named scholars.

I began to look for information, reread the list of demands, including the ones for getting rector scholarship: no thirds during studies, the presentation of scientific articles and abstracts, participation in contests, conferences, etc. I wondered whether I would find such a person at the IEE? At the Dean's office I was told  that up to four of our students would  receive a rector scholarship that semester: Marina Canar, Julia Kuzmina, Maria Melnychuk and Evgeny Shumsky. So, not to waste my time, I decided to talk to them. My interlocutors turned out to be positive and interesting. We talked with pleasure.

First, I asked what led them to the KPI. It turned out to be the destiny.

Marina: I study at the Department of Engineering Ecology.  My specialty is relevant. Why is the KPI, the ecology? I don't know. Perhaps, it is circumstances coincidence and fate. I wanted something interesting and useful, and that explains my choice.

Maria: My specialty is "Ecology, Environmental Protection and Balanced Nature Consumption". I've chosen it almost accidentally. I wanted to enter the Faculty of Management and Marketing and had one more vacation for application left. While going in Polytechnichna Street, past a selection committee,  I was proposed to apply the documents to "ecology". I got interested in this area, and when the results of the admission campaign have already been known, I chose the IEE. There is no  regret about my choice. It is an interesting and important profession, especially in our time.

Evgeny: My specialty is "Electromechanical automation systems and electric drive". In fact, it is Electromechatronics which includes electromechanics, electric engineering, electronics, automation and robotics. While admission campaign I had a plenty of choice. And in particular, this combination interested me. Now, I am studying a Master's degree. in future, I am going  to do postgraduate study.

However Julia entered deliberately, having weighed all "pros" and "cons". Julia: I am studying in the speciality "Thermal Engineering" to become an energy manager. Maybe, somebody had difficulties with choice, but I didn't. Firstly, I studied in the physical and mathematical class, which meant a profession of technical direction in the future. Secondly, my father works in energetics, so he described all the peculiarities of the work in this field in detail. Finally, I was attracted by a wide employment range as the complexity of the specialty allow me to change the activity, if I fail with  the desired one.

University is a new life, and it gives everybody their adventures and, what is the most important, experience. So what new experience did our heroes get?

Marina: It is impossible to compare the life under the parents' wing , when we were schoolchildren, with the current one. These are different stories. There are a lot of new acquaintances, close friends, added self-confidence. University helps to "build" a new stage of life and decide what you want to do further.

Julia: I become more and more convinced of the correctness of the statement: "Fortunate is the one who works hard." It isn't easy to be a good learner. There were sleepless nights with a  course project, and numerous suffering from tests, and a bad mood because of the "lost" weekend when I finished calculation tasks or laboratory works. Since the third year of my study I have been playing in  "What? Where? When?" (This is from pleasant moments), have been participating in scientific conferences and writing abstracts, I even played  in chess tournament and realized that it was not mine. (Smiles.)

Zhenya: Before entering the university I have had about five years of practice in judo and I liked it very much. I have a lot of victory awards, a yellow belt in judo. I have already been playing the guitar for nine years. Sometimes I give solo performances or play with friends on various events. New acquaintances, new knowledge, new opportunities are awesome benefits of the studying at the NTUU "KPI". It is really cool to do something new, interesting, the one which nobody did before you! But the moment when a "piece of iron", assembled, programmed and tuned on your own, began to work as planned is an unimaginable feeling!

So, now they are confident in themselves and their actions, but at the beginning of the studying they needed strong support for which they couldn't  but thank their parents and tutors. All four almost repeated the words of each other.

Marina: My parents have always been and will be my support, and I am immensely grateful to them for this. They have given me the freedom of choice, have helped make many desires come true. Now it's my turn to make them happy and proud of me.

Maria: Maybe, for me, as well as for everyone, my parents were the main support, too. Who else, except them, will listen to you and help? Let's take care of our darlings, it is important for them to know that we are happe and successful.

Finally I asked scholars say a few words to younger colleagues. The result was a collective response.

Marina: Some tips? Um ... Learn to live! Exactly to live, not to exist. Act on their own, find the work of his life, evolve every day; pay time to what you like; manage to realize yourself during studies because our future is in our hands. Always believe in yourself and do not give up.

Maria: Learn to combine the education with the entertainment.

Evgeny: Act, do it yourself and do not set your mind on  little things.

Julia: Be able to get the most important of these "little things" to avoid mistakes.

People like Maria, Evgeny, Marina and Julia can charge  you with positive and encourage to actions. I wish them conquer new heights and pave the way for new followers.
