On 7th of May 2016 it was 85 years from birthday of professor, doctor of technical science, head of foundry department in Kyiv Polytechnic Institute from 1974 till 1991, professor emeritus of NTUU “KPI” in 1998, member of Academy of engineering science of Ukraine in 1998 – Stepan Doroshenko.
In 1955 S. Doroshenko graduated from metallurgy department of KPI and was stationed in Kyiv factory “Bil’shovyk”, where he developed starting from technologist to deputy of chief metallurgist.
In 1959 Stepan entered the PhD program under foundry department in KPI. In MPhil dissertation, which was maintained in 1963, was first in the world formulated the principles of formation easily separated burnt on the surface of steel castings. Afterward research results on such direction were generalized in S. Doroshenko, V. Drobiazko, K. Vashchenko monograph “Obtaining the castings burn free in sand molds”, which was published in 1978, and later was published in Chinese and Japanese.
In 1960th on foundry department of KPI the brand new direction of molding compounds creation was launched, which was called “Liquid (rarely moving) just solidified mixtures”. The same was S. Doroshenko dissertation title, which was maintained in 1972. Described scientific direction was dynamically maintained in department and further.
It has been protected more than 10 master's theses; the Kiev factory "Bolshevik" in 1965, workes first USSR line of liquid molding, and in 1988 in Ukraine bulk molding compounds were used in more than 50 companies that produced over 700 ths. tons of castings per year. In 1980, the world saw the fundamental work of P. Doroshenko and KI Vashchenko "Liquid molding" which has become an indispensable tool for both foundry students and engineers.
From 1974 to 1991 Professor of KPI S.P.Doroshenko headed the Department of foundry. Over the years, scientific and pedagogical Panteliyovych Stepan made a significant contribution to improving curricula, development of new special subjects. Under his leadership the department for the first time provided the students with methodical literature on all subjects of the curriculum. These developments were of so high quality that have been used not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
Professor of the Department S.P.Doroshenko launched scientific school on mold technology, trained 27 candidates and four PhD, also for Germany, Bulgaria, Cuba, Vietnam. He has published over 650 scientific and educational works, including 50 books and pamphlets. In his works more than 40 patents.
With the efforts of professor it has been established fruitful relations of department of foundry of KPI with relevant institutions of China, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Cuba, Vietnam, Germany and other countries. The last years of his life he was actively engaged in the study of history foundry in Ukraine, art casting, the revival of forgotten names and events in Ukrainian history.
Stepan Panteliyovych gave a significant attention to career guidance for future engineers-casters. He and his co-authors published books on technology and history foundry in Ukraine and abroad, including "About moulders" (1976), "About the art casting and moulders" (1986), "Ancient and always Young profession" (1998) "The history of the figure casting" (1998). In addition of this area of his activity was collecting products of figure casting and creating at the department of casting foundry the museum of casting on base of S.P. Doroshenko’s personal collection.
Now the foundry department continues to develop its followers of Scientific School of Professor S.P. Doroshenko. And, of course, all of his students and staff will remain forever the memory of the teacher.
