October marks the second anniversary of the foundation of the Kyiv Polytechnic Charitable Foundation for Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Our newspaper and other university media resources have already informed readers about its activities.
Today, we think it would be appropriate to summarize the results of the Foundation's two-year work to some extent. A KP correspondent talked to the members of its board, Yurii Nesterenko, Head of the Civil Defense Department, and Kateryna Zaits, Deputy Chief Accountant of the University.
💌
So, Yuriy Nesterenko says:
- “Kyiv Polytechnic Charitable Foundation for Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was founded on the initiative of the Academic Council of the University and the staff of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on October 14, 2022. Its board of 7 employees is headed by Ihor Hryshko, Director of the Institute of MMI. The purpose of the Foundation is clear from the name itself - material support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to bring the victory over the Russian aggressor closer. Through the Foundation, we provide assistance to university staff and students who have been mobilized or have joined the Ukrainian Defense Forces on a voluntary basis. The Foundation's revenues are monetary contributions from university employees and anyone else through payroll deductions through the accounting department or personally transferred to the Foundation's account. It should be noted that Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute often hosts conferences or other meetings, whose participants also contribute to our Foundation. We do not set any restrictions or fix the amount of money contributed - everything is voluntary, according to the employee's own aspirations and capabilities.
I would also like to remind you of the priority of using the proceeds. According to the decision of the Foundation's Board, the first priority is to provide assistance to Kyiv Polytechnics who are in the combat zone or on combat duty. The second priority is to support other categories of military personnel from combat, technical, and logistics units. The third priority is to provide assistance to the families of servicemen and women in need. The fourth priority is to support programs to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine develop new weapons and equipment, which many KPI departments are working on. The fifth priority is to provide emergency assistance to military personnel and combatants who were injured in the war with Russia. In our work, we try to take a flexible approach to the use of funds - we make decisions depending on the priority and, of course, on the amount of money received by the Foundation.
- Once you receive a request from a serviceman, what is the next step in its consideration and implementation?
- As a rule, we receive an application by phone and then in writing via e-mail. It is reviewed at a meeting of the Foundation's board, where we prioritize it in comparison with other requests and our financial capabilities. After purchasing the requested item, we send it to the address indicated by the author of the request - a KPI student or employee - who serves in the ranks of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. From the military unit, we will receive a document - an act of acceptance and transfer of the product and confirmation in the form of a video or photo with the observance of security measures. Every month we receive an average of 5-10 requests and about UAH 200 thousand in cash receipts.
Kateryna Zaits continues the conversation:
- “The volume of revenues to the Fund and the ratio of received and fulfilled requests over the two years of operation are as follows. The total amount of accumulated funds from the beginning of the Fund's creation to September 2024 is UAH 5725393.72. Almost all of the 102 applications received have been implemented. Assistance was provided to 69 military units and 2 volunteer formations. Among the implemented applications from the Armed Forces units, I would like to mention the following purchases: DJI Mavik quadcopters - 10 units for a total of UAH 1174540.40; thermal imagers for UAH 453500, 10 kamikaze drones for UAH 162810; Starlink satellite modems - 7 units for UAH 159635; drone control kit for UAH 46234, etc. (below are some photo reports of the soldiers who have already received the equipment purchased at the expense of the Foundation - ed.)
It should be noted that the members of the board of the Charitable Foundation for Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic” headed by the Director of the Institute of MMI Ihor Hryshko do not receive any monetary payments for their work in this organization.
Interviewed by Volodymyr Shkolnyi
From the Editor: It is worth noting that the assistance to the Defense Forces of Ukraine provided by Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute through the Foundation established two years ago is quite significant. And, perhaps, the most important thing is that we know that this assistance is concrete, because every hryvnia used by the Foundation is embodied in a certain military product for the needs of military personnel - Kyiv Polytechnicians. So let's continue to support and provide funds to the Armed Forces Relief Fund! And we will bring our victory closer!
