Music is a special part of the cultural code of the Ukrainian people. We have the opportunity to remember this during traditional holidays. "Ukrainian Song 2023" was the title of a musical evening that took place recently. It has been proven that despite the war, students and teachers of our university, with the support of the student trade union and the Center for Culture and Arts, continue to sing in the polyphony of modern song variety.
The charity concert, which took place on May 17 at the site near the monument to Olena Teliha in the park named after her, or, as it is called, on the Polyana, was dedicated to honoring Ukrainian song.
There was an improvised stage decorated with an arch with colorful ribbons. Among the participants are beginners and more experienced performers who intend to present the audience with a wreath of Ukrainian songs. Spoiler alert: they will do their best.
The concert was opened by the soloists of the Polytechnic Folk Dance Ensemble. During the charity event, the participants and organizers - the teams of the student trade union, the campus and the Center for Culture and Arts - raised funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
But first things first. Shortly before the performance of the girls' dance quartet consisting of Oksana Marynych (first year of FBT), Daria Chernitska (fourth year of the Institute of VPI), Elsa Viyas (graduate of the Institute of VPI) and Yulia Menko (graduate of FMM), it was clear that the head of Polytechnic Dmytro Bakun was a little nervous. And it's understandable: it's the audience's job to enjoy the choreography, and the main thing for the ensemble director is to set the quartet up for the performance. The first chords, confident dance moves and... The girls managed to perform a Ukrainian welcome dance at a high aesthetic level.
The first loud applause in appreciation of the talent of the Polytechnic dancers was interrupted by the hosts of the holiday - Polina Pugach and Viktor Kondenko (both students of the Institute of IEE) to remind us of the famous Ukrainian composers and poets who created unique songs: Platon Maiboroda, Volodymyr Ivasyuk, Andriy Malyshko, and Mykhailo Tkach.
The next, this time vocal, number was performed by Svitlana Tokar, director of the ensemble at the Seventh Sense Center for Culture and Arts. The skillful performer of the medley of famous Ukrainian songs was awarded with applause. The wonderful vocals and sincere support of the audience created an atmosphere of unity and goodwill on the improvised platform.
Modern Ukrainian rap was presented by Maxim Borysiuk from FMM. The author of the song "Without You" shared with the audience his feelings from his own soul.
The audience also liked "Kyiv Waltz" and the soundtrack to the movie "Amelie", performed by Vsevolod Yivzhenko, a third-year student of the Institute of IMZ, with guitar.
Violinist Andrii Seredenko (third year, FBMI) presented the composition "Plakala" from the repertoire of the band "Kazka", setting the audience in the minor key.
The concert continued. Rostyslav Sukach, a third-year student from the Institute of MMI, was invited to the microphone, whose repertoire includes the song of the legendary fighters of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army "Lenta za lenta". By the way, as Rostyslav Sukach later told our correspondent during a short break between performances, he has been performing songs together with his fellow villager Vitaliy Horpynych for a long time. The amateur singers have a lot of patriotic original works and songs from classical and contemporary Ukrainian composers, which in melodies and lyrics glorify the invincibility of our country against the enslavers of its people. The heartfelt singing of the author's songs "Eternal Night" and "Cossacks Rode" (from the repertoire of the "Shadow of the Sun" group) performed by R. Sukach also drew applause from the audience.
And then there was an energetic and touching "Language of Unity" performed by Svitlana Tokar; lyrical and, at the same time, incendiary "Chervona Ruta", cheerful "Warriors of Light" and disturbing "Zombies" sung by students Yegor Ryabtsev (Institute of MMI) and Kateryna Osadchyk (Institute of IEE). Anastasia Melnychenko (IHF) performed songs from Vivienne Mort's repertoire "Fly" and "Time". A talented singer, graduate of the Institute of IEE Volodymyr Breus and guitarist Denys Humankov (Institute of Physical Technology) began their performance with the song "Embrace Me" by Okean Elzy, then "The Abyss" by Hard Kiss. And that's not all. The performance of the songs "Where We Are" (from the repertoire of the Antytila band) and "There is a War" proved to the audience that this duo deserves loud applause. And so it happened.
The concert ended with Svitlana Tokar's appeal to all those present with a proposal to sing the life-affirming song "Ukraine is Us!" (music by Nikolo Petrash, lyrics by Yuriy Rybchynsky). The singer was supported by all those present.
Let's be united, friendly, persistent, do not reproach each other - and then we will overcome anyone who encroaches on our freedom. Peace to us all! The song will be among us!
