A delegation of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute attended one of the world's largest technology conferences Web Summit 2021 in Lisbon. For the first time, a Ukrainian stand had a place at this conference. Web Summit 2021 brought together more than 40,000 participants. Among the projects from Ukraine was a humanoid robot HU-Bot by 4th-year FIOT student Danyil Fedorov. Our correspondent met with Danyil, who told us about his project development.
- I have been keen on robotics since childhood. I often dreamed of creating something like a robot. And the idea of developing this project appeared about a year and a half ago after my conversation with my teachers of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering, Oleh Lisovychenko and Mykhailo Tkach. They supported me and helped with the idea, so we soon printed the robot on a 3D printer. The robot has 14 hinges and motors. It can replicate all human motions. The robot still works on mains, though we are currently developing the ability to run on batteries. The robot has intellectual capabilities. It can recognize faces, understand speech, and respond to appeals. One of its features is to remember people and track them. The HU-Bot can bypass objects on its way, receive voice commands, etc. For example, in the future, a person's visit to the doctor will be much easier because HU-Bot will take the visitor to his doctor without any problems. These days, we are actively implementing a remote control system through VR systems (virtual reality systems). Thanks to this invention, we help people in difficult situations. If we compare it with other developments, we can distinguish such a difference - ours is human-like, while others are mechanized systems. We plan to cooperate with many companies that also present their projects. The conference in Lisbon has expanded and strengthened our ties with developers. So far, the HU-Bot is taking the second stage of the prototype adaptation.
The FIOT Deputy Dean Olena Khalus, who together, with Danyil and FIOT Dean Sergii Telenyk took part in the Web Summit 2021 conference, helps to flesh out the story:
- The NGO “Development of IT Education” established by FIOT graduates helped Danyil complete the project. They also funded the participation of our faculty in Web Summit 2021. Presenting the HU-Bot humanoid robot at a world-renowned conference is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute students. In addition, during the event, we met many new partners with whom we will touch new areas, look forward and experiment to develop in the future. These are universities, investors, IT companies, and foundations.
