In November 2021, Hryhorii Synytsia Art Gallery demonstrated an exhibition of landscape paintings by Olena Samsonova. During the exhibition opening, Andrii Kulahin, Head of the Harmoniia Painting and Graphics Studio, said: “You not only enjoy her paintings but also feel spiritually uplifted. It seems to be just a painting: a tree lost its leaves, the trunk is bare, but so skillfully pictured that it captivates the viewer and immerses him in some inner process. Sun-drenched snow, flowering earth – they cannot help but arouse emotions in the viewer.”
The artist said that she loves nature, so she writes mostly landscapes, sometimes flowers. She likes to travel, so most paintings are based on Carpathian motifs. By the way, Olena Samsonova confessed that she started painting seriously only after retirement.
Due to the quarantine restrictions, there were not many spectators. “I like the colors. They are alive and convey the grandeur and diversity of nature,” said one of the students. And another added, “The colors are incredible, the paintings are full of sunshine, as in the paintings of Kuindzhi.”
“I am a forestry engineer by profession,” the painter said. “Therefore, it affected my perception of nature. For me, it is divine, in all its manifestations and all seasons. When I see a beautiful scene, I immediately take out the camera and capture it. When I paint, I compare my impressions with the photo. After all, it is impossible to “catch” sunrise or sunset with a brush because it lasts only 10-15 minutes, so I use photos to bring the vibe.”
The month, while the exhibition lasted, passed quickly. However, you can watch a video and enjoy Olena’s exhibits. While closing the display, we wished the author a creative success and new fruitful demonstrations.
