Traditionally, in the first days of the new year in the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Sports Complex hosted two Christmas futsal tournaments.
The first tournament is for the University Trade Union Cup, which has lasted for 37 years. This time the teams consisted of staff trade unions and University students, Antonov serial production plant staff, the Slavutich Brewery, the sports club “Legion XXI”, Kyiv Football Association of Students.
The competition took place according to the group scheme. The Slavutych and Legion 21 teams reached the final. In an incredibly tight contest played by the two teams, Legion 21 won the deciding match 2-1. Teams of staff trade unions and University students competed for third place in the tournament. A sharp confrontation between the football teams ended in a draw in the full time. And only a series of post-match penalties determined the winner - the student team! The match was sometimes even too harsh, while after the final whistle, friendship and a festive mood joined the players together…
The second tournament was a mini-football competition among children teams, in which the children of university staff play. It was held on the eve of Christmas Eve in the same Sports Complex at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The teams of the FC “Kolos”, DUFK “Arsenal” (Children-Youth Football Club “Arsenal”), “DUSSH 25” (Children and Youth Sports School #25), Dynamo “Family” took part in the tournament. The teams consisted of children born in 2009-2011.
The games took place in a circular system. Each match for children was like a final. They fought for every ball, played passionately, and showed the thirst for victory. The teams even had noticeable tactical "homework" when using standard provisions typical of adult teams. All football matches showed a spirit of amity on the floor. As a result, all the children taking part in the competition became winners of the 2021 Christmas Tournament. It confirmed the motto of the game: “there are no winners and losers in a Christmas tournament, only his majesty football wins!”
