It is a holiday to congratulate the soldiers who defend our country and honor the courage and heroism of those who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
On the eve of the holiday, in 11th October, students and staff of the university gathered near the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Participants of the demonstration laid flowers at the monument of the Kyiv polytechnicians who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Names of S. Bondarev, P. Mazurenko, Y. Popravka, M. Shapoval, I. Pavlov, O. Petryshchuk, V. Kochetkov-Sukach, I. Shevchenko, V. Diusov, A. Yeremenko, Y. Artiukh, V. Zherebylo, O. Kondratiuk and M. Fedorenko are engraved on the monument. Eternal memory and glory to the Heroes! A low bow to their families!
The rector of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, academician of NAS of Ukraine M. Z. Zgurovsky, Priest of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker T. Saliuk, vice-rectors of the university, teachers, staff, cadets of ISCIS and students of other departments of the university participated in the lying flowers ceremony.
In Zgyrovsky’s speech he urged to always remember the names of the heroes who gave their lives for the protection of our Motherland and, in particular, noted: “For some of the dead Kyiv polytechnicians the burial service was read at the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, where our meeting is taking place. Here, blessings were also given to those who went to defend our Motherland. We are deeply grateful to Priest Tarasius for the mission that he has carried out and is carring out with us.”
At the end of the ceremony, the rector of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute awarded a number of employees – participants of the hostilities with Acknowledgement of the Academic Council of the University for their diligent implementation of their duties, high professionalism and active participation in patriotic education.
Also teachers and student of the departments of the ISCIS, Faculty of Sociology and Law and Faculty of Computer Sciences and Software Engineering laid flowers on memorial plaques to the colleagues killed in the East of Ukraine and heroes of the Maidan.
