The beginning of the new 2018-2019 year is special for National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”: 120 years ago the first students started their studies here.
The opening of two monuments at the campus belongs to the most notable events of the jubilee program. The first monument is devoted to the students who died during the Revolution of Dignity and in the battles in the East of Ukraine. The second one represents Confucius, the great Chinese thinker, educator and politician.
These monuments will be installed based on the decisions of the Academic and Administrative Council of the University.
The monument to the students who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the independence of Ukraine will be opened on August 30. It will stand near the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron saint of the university, and near the monument in honor of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. This is a stylized figure of the goddess Nika, which traditionally represents military victories. On her extended wings, the names of thirteen heroes will be engraved.

The sponsors of this project were the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine and Oleksandr Danchenko, people's deputy of Ukraine and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Informatization and Communications who graduated from our university in 1997.
The author of the monument is Anatoliy Valiev, the famous Ukrainian sculptor and Honored Artist of Ukraine.
The monument representing the prominent Chinese thinker, educator and politician Confucius (September 28, 551 BC – May 11, 479 BC) was installed on the Square of Knowledge. This is a gift from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China. It was created at the initiative and at the expense of the diplomatic mission of this great state to celebrate the long-standing established links between our university and Chinese educational institutions and research centers. These links are now intensively restored and deepened. It is not a coincidence that Confucius was chosen for such a symbolic gesture by the People's Republic of China. After all, his name enjoys a great respect all over the world. The thinker paid special attention to the education aiming at perfecting and wisdom. Consequently, Confucius has become the main symbol of the Chinese educational system: in China he is even referred to as "a teacher of ten thousand generations". His views on upbringing and education remain relevant today.
The author of the bronze figure of the great Chinese thinker is the young representative of the famous Ukrainian artistic family, talented sculptor Mykola Znoba. His works embellish not only public buildings, streets and squares of Ukrainian cities, but also historical centers of France, Great Britain and the Czech Republic.
