The KPI hosts the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Pure Water. Fundamental, Applied and Industrial Aspects”.

The conference is devoted to extremely important issues, the overcoming of which influences the future of not only individual countries, but the whole mankind. This is not an exaggeration, because as a result of significant anthropogenic pressure and a steady increase in the population of the Earth, degradation of natural reservoirs, which are the main suppliers of water, not only drinking, but also that used for economic and industrial needs, is happening constantly.

As it was noted by the first vice-rector of the KPI Yuriy Yakymenko during the opening of the conference, despite the fact that the physiological needs of man make about 1,5 dm3 of water per day and in comparison with other its needs these are negligible, in order to provide comfortable conditions in a home, it is necessary to obtain about 200 dm3 of water per day per capita, and taking into account the costs of industry and agriculture, this figure is rising to 300 - 600 dm3 of water! This growth is hampered by a shortage of water suitable for consumption and a significant cost of cleaning up of the contaminated waters. So some actions should be implemented, and the efforts of only one country are not enough. Only jointly, using the mechanisms of international cooperation in science, industry and education, it is possible to develop and improve the principles and mechanisms of an integrated approach to the protection of water objects and to suggest the best scientific and technical solutions in the field of water purification.

That is why the conference “Pure water. Fundamental, applied and industrial aspects” involves the participation of specialists from different countries, which is why it is not only scientific, but also practical conference, and it covers virtually all major areas of scientific research in the field of water supply, water purification and rational use of water resources.
The organizers of the scientific and practical forum are the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Affiliate of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, UNESCO Chair “Higher Technical Education, Applied Systems Analysis and Informatics”, Scientific Park “Kyiv Polytechnics”, Ukrainian-Polish Center of KPI, State University “Lublin Politechniks” (Republic of Poland), Society of Ecological Chemistry and Engineering (Lublin, Republic of Poland), “Technology of Nature” Ltd. (Ukraine).

A plenary meeting of the conference was held upon the opening ceremony. Reports on the most urgent issues of water supply, water purification and conservation of water resources were presented during the course of the plenary meeting.
Next, the conference will work in three sections: “Technologies for the purification of natural waters. Technical aspects of water supply”, “Effects of wastewater on the environment. Monitoring and forecasting of the state of natural reservoirs in conditions of intensive water consumption”, “Technologies of wastes treatment, decontamination of sediments and obtaining of energy from them. Biological and biochemical aspects”.

The participants of the event are scholars not only from universities, academic research institutions and innovative enterprises of Ukraine, but also from relevant organizations from Poland, the USA, Slovakia and Russia. Of course, there are many Kyiv Polytechnicians among the speakers, because various aspects of water purification research are carried out by staff and students of sixteen faculties of the KPI. In general, more than 125 scholars, postgraduates, students, representatives of business structures take part in this scientific and practical assembly.

Proceedings of the conference are printed in the collection, which was presented to all the participants.
The conference will continue its work until October, 27.
