On October 12, 2017, a memorial plaque was unveiled in Kyiv to a prominent scientist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), professor Ivan Myronovych Chyzhenko, who for almost 40 years was the head of the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering (TEE) of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. This memorable sign is located on the building on the street Mykilsko-Botanichna, 14, where since 1955 for almost 50 years lived this prominent person.
Thanks to important scientific works and numerous textbooks, the name of academician Ivan Chyzhenko is well known not only in our country, but also abroad. He created his own scientific school. Its characteristic feature is the organic connection of theoretical research with the solution of important problems for the national economy. The scientist has proposed and implemented a new class of valve inverters - complex converters that are capable of working with high power factor, generate reactive power to alternate current (AC) power. 50 candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended under the scientific guidance of Ivan Myronovych Chyzhenko.
The prominent scientist combined strenuous scientific and pedagogical work with scientific, organizational and social activities. In the course of 10 years - from 1959 to 1969 - he was the Vice-Rector of KPI for scientific work; he directed all his abilities for the training of scientific personnel, the development of scientific research, and the strengthening of the material base of the institute.
It is worth saying that Ivan Myronovych was a man with a natural sense of tact and ability to communicate with people, to lead the team without any pressure and to do it really effectively. Every his word mattered, he did not allow himself to speak superfluously, his word was always accurate and appropriate.
An outstanding scientist and teacher, Ivan Myronovych Chyzhenko always created an atmosphere full of benevolence and respect for people. His life inspires us for noble work for the sake of our native Ukraine.

Yandulskyi, the corresponding member of NASU A.A.Shcherba, the h ead of the Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering Professor M.Ia.
