On October 10, 2017 is celebrated the 125th birthday of Myhailo Kravchuk (1892-1942), the most prominent Ukrainian mathematician of the 20th century, who entered the treasury of world science with his works on higher algebra, mathematical analysis, the theory of differential and integral equations, probability theory, and mathematical statistics. On this day a solemn meeting, devoted to honoring the memory of an outstanding scientist, was held in the Hall of Meetings of the Academic Council of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.
The meeting was attended by teachers, scientists, students of the KPI, representatives of other universities and scientific institutions that participated in the XVII International Scientific Conference titled after Myhailo Kravchuk. This conference commenced on October 7, and was firstly held in Lutsk and in the village of Chovnytsya, the motherland of Myhailo Kravchuk, and then – in Kyiv Polytechnic. The meeting on October 10th was final of the conference.
The participants of the solemn meeting were congratulated by the first vice-rector of the university, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yuriy Iakymenko. He briefly described the activities of Myhailo Kravchuk as a scientist and professor of the KPI, and also expressed great appreciation and respect to the Professor Nina Vyrchenko, who initiated and was the main organizer of the first mathematical conference titled after M. Kravchuk 25 years ago, and which made a tremendous amount of work to preserve his name and achievements for centuries.
Chairperson of the meeting, the Associate Professor of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Ph.D. in Mathematics Victor Gaidei read out the greetings to the participants of the meeting, which were received from the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Maxim Striha and the dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko University, Myhailo Horodniy.
Traditional art congratulations were performed during the conference. Students of the Kiev School of Art №8 Nazar Shust, Herman Rozstalnyi and Sofia Dzyba recited the poem, and an assistant trainee of the National Musical Academy of P.I. Chaikovskyi performed a song about Myhailo Kravchuk.
Then the Head of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Probability Theory of the FMF, Professor Oleg Klesov, Rivne State Humanitarian University, Ph.D. Andriy Bomba, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine Oleksandr Nakonechnyi, representative of the Volyn Fellowship prof. Peter Koval, Ph.D., Ph.D. from FMF Nadia Zadereya, the head of Solomyansk “Prosvita”organization Zoya Golota and director of the film "Golgotha of Academician Kravchuk" Alexander Ryabokrys have delivered their speeches. They talked about the life and work of Myhailo Kravchuk, told about his tragic fate, told about his contribution to world science and the development of mathematical education in Ukraine, the contemporary significance of his works and their influence on the development of science and technology, modern studies of his scientific heritage.
After the meeting, there was a traditional photographing of the participants of the meeting near the monument of Myhailo Kravchuk.
