On 9 May melodies and songs of years of war could have been heard from the Meeting Room of Academic Board of National technical university of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute”. Here, at the solemn meeting of the occasion of 72d anniversary of Great Victory, fellow workers and university students congratulated their colleagues – veterans of World War II and participants of ATO, frontline workers, war babies, and veterans of Military Forces.
“Dear veterans! This holiday is equally associated with both past and future. It consists of everything: happiness and sorrow, pride and bitterness, pain and hope”, – rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute, academician of Ukrainian NAS, Mykhailo Zgurovsky said, welcoming all those present. He also reminded about invaluable contribution that veterans of World War II made into Victory, post-war restoration and university reconstruction. Besides, he also noted that presently there are many fellow workers and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute students among defenders of our country in ATO and volunteers who provide them help. Thus, the courage and attitude to public duty of war veterans became the lead to follow for representatives of young generation of Kyiv polytechnics.
Third year military student of Institute of Specialized Communication and Information Protection of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute, A-level student Vitalii Ventsuryk and head of Veteran Board of “National technical university of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv polytechnic institute”, veteran of Military Forces Yurii Nesterenko congratulated veterans.
Meeting participants commemorated the memory of those who died in the fields of World War II and in war actions in the east of Ukraine and hold a moment of silence and after that on behalf of those who gathered in universities, military officers and military students of ISZZI put flowers to monument to Kyiv polytechnics and monument to the Heroes of Heavenly Hundreds.
In the end, there was a concert performed for veterans and guests of the holiday by participants of art collective of Center of Culture of Art of the university. It was finished with the performance of the youngest artists – participants of children’s choreographic studio “Pastoliata”. They not only performed dancing for veterans but also delivered them small gifts – bunch of wood lilies and their own pictures.
