The scientists of NTUU “KPI” have represented their developments in a session in Department of housing and utility infrastructure of Kyiv local state administration.
The session was devoted to the problems of waste waters disinfection of Bortnytskfa aeration station (BSA). The employees of department as well as researchers of KPI along with representatives of PJSC “Kyivvodokanal” and BSA took part in session. It is clear that presentations of Kyiv polytechnics were related to the problems of water purification.
This is quite serious problem. Bortnytska aeration station was put into operation in 1965. It has been designated to provide mechanical and biological purification of waste waters of Kyiv. But over the last 50 years the operational lifetime of almost all its systems and facilities has come to the end. Besides, within this time, the amounts of waste waters of the capital has significantly increased, since the city square and population number have increased many times respectively. Thus, the station requires complex and rapid modernization. Evidently, current block reparations and equipment replacements has been in process and are still under way, but currently it isn’t sufficiently. A great step further was taken by technological water purification. Nowadays, the reconstruction of sewage water purification constructions of Bortnytska aeration station is being prepared as well as construction of modern technological lines for processing and utilization of deposits. The government of Japan grants Ukraine a subsidized loan in amount of near 1 billion dollars at 0,1 % year term for 40 years in terms of intergovernmental agreement. But the reconstruction of BSA, project of which is already done, isn’t sufficient. One requires a complete modernization of the whole complex of water treatment, water purification and water drain. That’s why local government takes measures towards searching for the best possible technological ways for settling issue that is of the great importance for Kyiv. In this respect, the results of scientific researchers of KPI can contribute greatly: the university has a great experience of overcoming almost the whole complex of purification problems, sewages disinfection, active deposit utilization and waste waters precipitate.
Actually, the meeting originated from the discussion about such an experience and ideology, that lays down in complex program of NTUU “KPI” “Pure water”. The relative information was provided by vice-rector deputy for Research Valerij Barbash. “This is one of several complex programs that are being worked at in University” – he stated. Eight structural subdivisions of University take part in this program. Fifteen scientific groups, part of whose representatives is present here, work over these problems.
His speech was proceeded by the coordinator of complex university program “Pure water”” , professor Mykola Gomel. He spoke about the fact in which directions the researchers work within the framework of this program as well as the new technologies of sewages purification from nitrogen and phosphorus compounds that the working group is working at, headed by him personally.
Professor Olexandr Luhovskyii delivered speech on technologies of ultrasound cavitational disinfection of fluids; Candidate of Chemical Sciences Taras Nyzhnyk – on the newest chlorine-free technologies of purification and disinfection of natural and waste waters and the experience of putting them into practice; Candidate of Technical Sciences Veronika Zhukova – on modernization of biological purification of local waste waters technologies.
The speech by Igor Astrelin, the dean of chemical and technology faculty of NTUU “KPI” was devoted to the research lines in the field of water purification that are being carried out by scientists of faculty, their links with a range of prominent national and foreign companies that deal with relevant topics of this problem as well as opportunities of the faculty to solve particular problems in this field and examples of such decisions. He also spoke about general trends towards water purification in countries of European Union, USA, Canada, China and opportunities of technologies implementation into national practice.
Professor Gennadij Gejko devoted his speech to the problems of sewages draining by underground drain tunnels in the right bank of Kyiv, Candidate of Technical Sciences Valerij Gryshchuk – to the problems of disinfection of deposits, air and water.
Some of the technologies suggested in the session are able to provide purification of quite huge amounts of water and sewages and have already received practical approval at water treatment plants in great number of Ukrainian cities of several regions. Others can be used locally – in sewages purification systems of huge retail facilities, public catering establishments, hospitals etc. Each of presented projects have been discussed lively by the members of session, the main emphasis was particularly put on financial aspects of their realization. Due to the economic health of our state it goes without saying. But, with regard to the importance of the city problem, it is necessary to manage this project. Thus, the director of housing and public utilities department of KLSA, Dmytro Novutskyi, who headed the session, gave some instructions regarding the further studying of KPI scientists’ offers, including conducting of experimental work as required.
