From 6 to 11 March, the Kharkiv National University named after V.N. Karazin hosted the XIII Ukrainian student tournament of physicists. This year, our university for the first time sent two teams to the tournament. They competed with the other 4 teams - representatives of physical and physical-technical faculty of Kharkiv National University of V.N. Karazin. According to the results of 4 qualifying contests for the first time in the history of the tournament, one of our teams ("Gunners KPI") participated in the final. In the final it was ranked second, behind the team Faculty of Physical Engineering KNU of V.N. Karazin. Moreover, the team "Gunners KPI” captain, student Paul Radchuk the IPT was the winner in the individual event, and the student FHPE Vladislav Filonov and the IPT student Vlad Sokolovsky received diplomas of II degree.
The success of the tournament became possible by the hard work of students and team spirit that prevailed among its members. Preparation for the tournament was carried out in September and did not stop even at night in the hotel during the tournament. Thus, in order to improve the experimental data for the final task, the IPT student Michael Flux along with other members of the team until late carried out evening measurements in the laboratory of physical-technical faculty KNU in Pjatihatki and then processed the overnight results. In general, it is difficult to overestimate the role of each member of our teams: each of them has made an interesting study and its results were clearly presented. Already mentioned in the final Flux Michael told about an interesting theoretical and experimental study of changes in the albedo of solids at their moisture. Ilya Olkhovik designed levitator working on the effect of ion traction, Vladislav Filonov developed a scheme of the device for the determination of entropy. Furthermore, in fact, problem solving, the tournament format required from the participants a considerable skill on the tactics of the discussion, the ability to defend their opinion in the scientific debate, as is required in the course of contests, which by their scheme were reminiscent of meeting the specialized council on thesis defense.
It is hoped that the skills and traditions formed team will contribute to the further development of the STF in our university, and that next year our team will face new outstanding achievements!
