It was a first visit ot the newly appointed head of the diplomatic mission of the Land of the Rising Sun in the KPI. At the beginning, he examined the historical territory of the university campus, visited the Ukrainian-Japanese Center NTUU "KPI", toured the alley monuments of prominent engineers and scientists who have studied or worked here , exposition of State Polytechnic Museum of KPI and its department of Aviation and cosmonautics of I.I.Sikorsky and Science Park "Kyiv Polytechnic".
After the tour Shiheki Sumy discussed with the university managers the issue of the cooperation with the Embassy. The meeting was attended by the Rector of NTUU "KPI" NAS of Ukraine academician Michael Zgurovsky, Vice-rector of the University on International Cooperation, corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine Sergey Sidorenko, deputy vice-rector Eugene Polishchuk, the coordinator of the Ukrainian-Japanese Center NTUU "KPI" Furukawa Mizuho and others.
At the meeting Michael Zgurovsky congratulated the Ambassador with the national holiday in Japan - the birthday of Emperor Akihito, which the people of this country is celebrating 23 December.
Then the participants discussed urgent issues of cooperation NTUU "KPI" with the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and Japanese universities and companies.
"For us, Kyiv polytechnics, the cooperation with Japanese colleagues, prominent members of your country is one of the top priorities - said the rector. - Ukraine today looks in the future. The Japan's experience is very important for us, including the experience of the crisis, in which it was after the Second World War, the experience of building a developed economy and democratic society. "
Japan's Ambassador to Ukraine Shiheki Sum thanked the rector of the university for the birthday greetings emperor, for the kind words to his people and said that the Japanese fully supported Ukraine and its politics.
One of the main issue raised during the meeting was the prospect of the Ukrainian-Japanese Center NTUU "KPI". Participants discussed some organizational aspects of this common structure and the possibility of expanding the scope of its activity. University Rector Michael Zgurovsky proposed complement the cultural-educational projects of the Center with the projects of innovation and scientific direction - they would give opportunity to involve in its activities scientists and business representatives of both countries. This, in turn, not only would bring him to new horizons of cooperation with Ukrainian and Japanese partners, but also easier to address some, including staffing problems. So the participants agreed to meet again soon to consider specific proposals and plans.
