October 9, an exhibition of dolls "Okiagari-koboshi" was opened in the exhibition hall of Ukrainian-Japanese Center NTUU "KPI".
The exhibition is organized as part of the charity project Japanese designer Kenzo Takada. French artists and Japanese manga artists have painted symbolic drawings on the white base of traditional toys okiagari-koboshi. These toys were created by local craftsmen Japanese Aizu region (Fukushima prefecture) to support and early recovery of Japan after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011.
Moreover , Japanese manga artists painted okiagari-koboshi especially for the exhibition in Ukraine and sent a message with warm words of support for Ukrainian people.
"... We will rise against all odds" - small "monks" okiagari-koboshi gathered here in Ukraine precisely in order to pass this call from Fukushima, from Japan, from France.
At the exhibition one can view as the original dolls okiagari-koboshi, as well as the design work of Japanese artists, including the work of the famous Japanese designer Kenzo Takada.
The opening ceremony was attended by First Secretary for Cultural Affairs in the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine Hideyuki Tandja, Vice Rector of NTUU "KPI" Petro Kyrychok, known Ukrainian opera singer laureate of international competitions Elena Grebenuk and others.
The exhibition will run until October 25, inclusive, at ave. Peremogy, 37, the Scientific and Technical Library of NTUU "KPI", 4th Floor, Ukrainian-Japanese Center of NTUU "KPI". Admission is free.

For information. Okiagari-koboshi is a Japanese roly-poly doll, made of papier-mache, is considered a lucky talisman and symbol of steadfastness and endurance. The doll okiagari-koboshi comes from Fukushima prefecture, the region of Aizu.
The project "Ukrainian-Japanese Center" was established in accordance with intergovernmental agreements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The Center began operations in May 2006 at the National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI". Since 2011, the Center is supported by the Japan Foundation. In order to deepen the understanding between Ukraine and Japan, the Centre is implementing a program exploring the Japanese culture as well as language courses.
