The first group of students, who are employees of public authorities, starts training in the field of geoinformation technologies. This training is carried out on the basis of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development. The training is conducted in the framework of the Canadian-Ukrainian educational project "Bookmark fundamentals of spatial data infrastructure: ensuring the base in the Ukrainian government to maintain stable economic growth," which is being implemented in Ukraine, with the support of the Vancouver Island University and its Ukrainian partners: Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and National Technical University of Ukraine "Kiev Polytechnic Institute".
The training courses began September 5, 2014 with the inaugural meeting of the project trainers and trainees for the purpose of acquaintance and receiving learning instructions. This year, students must go through the first of six planned courses - "Introduction to Geographic Information Systems." Feature of the course is fully remote training, which is provided through the use of electronic distance learning system Moodle and server for remote access to geographic information software.
To participate in the organization of the inaugural meeting, NTUU "KPI" was visited by Vancouver Island University professor Dave Cake, who met with the staff of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development Project trainers and course participants. Professor Dave Cake positivly appreciated the technical side of training courses for distance learning, and noted the importance of involving the audience by public organizations to establish a foundation for the development of national geospatial data infrastructure in Ukraine.
