December 13, 2013 in KPI on the initiative of the Scientific SSA was held a public lecture on Computational Neuroscience by lecturer at the Institute Georgia State University (Atlanta, USA) Professor Gennady Tsimbalyuk. This summer he also teach on stream (stream - thematic direction) "Computational Neuroscience" Ninth Summer School "Achievements and Applications of Contemporary Informatics, Mathematics and Physics" (English "Achievements and Applications of Contemporary Informatics, Mathematics and Physics", or short AACIMP ), an international scientific and educational project that has been initiated by the SSA KPI. The conversation took place as part of the AACIMP Promo - cycle introductory lectures by leading professors in the world with the scientific subjects in accordance with the directions of the Summer School.
The meeting was devoted to the basic concepts and the latest developments in the field of neuroscience. Gennady detailed about "Dynamical Neuroscience", which deals with the processes of perception, cognition and behavior. Dynamical systems theory - a branch of mathematics and physics that describes the dynamic transitions between modes - bifurcation and uses geometric methods to derive laws that govern the behavior of different systems, including neural and neuro-mechanical. In general, the direction of "Neuroscience" - a relatively young branch of modern science, even this term came into scientific language only in the 60s of the last century. Today it is a set of scientific disciplines that study the nervous system at different levels - from the molecular level to the whole organism. Above answer to the question "How does the brain and the entire nervous system?" working together physicists, neuroscientists, psychologists, biologists, chemists, mathematicians, programmers and philosophers. Over time, the right to study will become wider and Gennady Tsymbaliuk states that "neuroscience - is an area of future discoveries that will impress our imagination."
Open lecture was held in the presentation of stream "Computational Neuroscience" summer school AACIMP-2014. A program committee in this area, Professor Gennady Tsymbaliuk and Professor Sergiy Yakovenko (Medical School of the University of West Virginia (USA) emphasize that at this stream waiting for significant changes. Foremost among them - "a deviation from the didactic style of teaching towards active learning with the practical exercises and projects. "" We offer several individual projects neuro-mechanical and neuro-dynamics that will help to learn more about the world of computational neuroscience, "- said Sergiy Yakovenko. Gennady S. says more:" Yes, the first innovation - the students work on projects alone or in groups. important that at the end of school, we will conduct a conference where trainees will present their reports. "with regard to the teaching staff, it will change - there will be some new faces." We welcome Ron Kalabrizi Emory University (a private research university, Atlanta, USA).
Ron - is one of the founders of neurodynamics: he made a huge contribution to the understanding of the mechanisms of neural rhythms "- adds Sergiy Yakovenko. Stream on" Neuroscience " also will conduct classes one of its founders, the representative of the program committee in 2006-2012 were Dr. Ruben Tykidzhi-Hamburyan (health Sciences Center Louisiana state University, USA, SRI neurocybernetic Southern Federal University, Russia), a prominent scientist and neurobiologist Professor Peter Erdi (Kalamazoo College, USA Research Institute of physics and nuclear physics part of the UAS, Budapest, Hungary ) and Dr. Anton Popov (Department of Physical and biomedical Electronics "KPI").
It should be noted that during the meeting with Gennady Tsimbalyuk first provost of NTUU "KPI" Yurij Yakymenko made a decision on accreditation (ECTS granting credits) full course Computational Neuroscience at the Ninth Summer School AACIMP "KPI" for American students of the State University of Georgia and West Virginia University.
Note: Summer School AACIMP-2014 will be held from 4 to 16 August in "KPI". To participate in it invited students and young scientists of our university, Ukraine and the world. Registration opens - February 2014 Registration Form, the names and descriptions of courses, details of the teachers will soon be posted on the official website of the Summer School .
