On October 13, 2013 a conference for the 1-2 year students was held by the Department of Technical English (DTE) №1 on the subject of “Social and Ecologic Problems of the Modern World and the Conception of Steady Development of Ukraine in It” in the lecture room 101 of the 7-th building of our university. Suggesting to discuss currently important topic and problems DTE #1 engaged different faculties and departments of our university: Institute of energetic efficiency and managmnet (IEEM), Heat-engineering faculty (HEF), Faculty of electrical engineering and automatics (FEEA), Electronics faculty (EF), Chemical-engineering faculty (CEF). DTE lecturers prepared nearly 20 students who have shown an audience interesting presentations provided with visual materials, various statistics and info graphics.
Such conference had a purpose of stimulating the students wish to learn English and showing ypunger students the great importance of English for scientific progress and development. Student receive the most up to date information on the latest experiments and researches from Englisg sources due to it is the world science language. Thus, 1 and 2 years students of IEEM (A.Melnik, T.Martsі, T.Ovcharenko, Yu.Kuzmіna), HEF (O.Galagan, R.Golub, O.Avramenko, Ya.Krivenko, B.Shinkaruk, N.Matvєіchev), FEEA (І.Andrієnko , І.Mageramova, T.Mіsyura, N.Vasilєva, І.Tokarєv, P.Fіlіpіchev) EF (P.Leonyuk, D.Palіy, S.Afanasenko) and CEF (Ya.Kohanovsky) were involved into scientific community of the KPI and contributed to the development of modern scince and helped to solve modern day Ukrainian problems by making reports and presentations on the subject of “Social and environmental challenges of our time and the concept of sustainable development in Ukraine and world”. The conference was started by the IEEM student A.Melnik. Among the problems of the younger generation concern, the most urgent issues are of environmental pollution in Kyiv and Ukraine, recycling in Ukraine, changes in the Earth's ozone layer and the greenhouse effect, the use of alternative energy sources in Ukraine and the efficiency of solar panels and others. It is very pleasing that the students are involved into topics such as engineering ethics and ways to avoid man-triggered disasters, dealing with their effects, water resources of Ukraine and others
The conference attracted many students from other courses and departments. With wishes for the future - to hold such English conferences on Intercollegiate level, involving to the participation students from other universities.
