In 2013 the International Intellectual Property Day, celebrated on April 26 every year, was celebrated under the slogan of "Creativity: Next Generation". With this motto it draws the attention of the general public to the role of youth in the country’s development. The progress of modern science, culture and arts is tied to young people. The youth are open to perception of knowledge, easily acquire skills and abilities, have an immense intellectual potential and extraordinary creative abilities which manifest themselves in the perception, picturesqueness of thought, restless imagination, aspiration for fantasy, relaxedness and keen memory typical of young adults. The notion of youth is directly associated with that of the future. And thus, more attention is being drawn to the issues of raising the younger generation’s interest in intellectual property, one of the most important phenomena of the XXI century.
Not only does intellectual property give the spur to use the intellectual values created, but also stimulates creative activity. Due to this fact, the participation of young adults in inventive work, the development of advanced technologies and, of course, effective intellectual property management, competent regulation of relations within the sphere are a key factor of social and economic development and the formation of new innovative culture in this country.
On the occasion of the Intellectual Property Day, a research and practical training workshop designed for the students, postgraduates and employees of the MMI and DSL of our university took place under the aegis of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, involving leading Ukrainian experts in intellectual property. The workshop was entitled "Practical Application of Forensic Enquiry of Intellectual Property Objects in Ukraine" and organised by the Department of Machinery Tools and Machinery Design, which trains specialists in "Intellectual Property" (the head of the department: V.B. Strutyns’kyi, professor, Doctor of Engineering, Honoured master of sciences and engineering).
The workshop was opened by the deputy pro-rector of research work of NTUU "KPI", associate professor V.A. Barabash, who greeted the present ones with the Intellectual Property Day.
The participants of the workshop heard the reports of the employees of the Research Institute of Intellectual Property of the National Academy of Legal Science where the following issues were considered in detail: "Forensic Enquiry of Intellectual Property Objects"; "Forensic Enquiry of Inventions and Utility Models in Ukraine" (S.A. Petrenko, cand. of juridical sc., forensic expert, head of the centre of forensic studies); " Forensic Enquiry of Product and Service Marks" (research fellow N.V. Minchenko); "Forensic Enquiry of Copyright Items" (research fellow I.I. Petrenko). In accordance with the workshop’s programme, there were also workshop sessions of leading experts in intellectual property, which generated exceptional interest and discussions. At the end the participants were presented with certificates of attendance of the workshop. The participants noted the high level of the workshop organization, held and expressed heartfelt gratitude to its organisers.
