General Director of WIPO Francis Gurry - Doctor of KPI. General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Dr. Francis Gurry June 29 - July 1, 2010 visited Ukraine. NTUU KPI cooperates with WIPO which operates from 1967 and promotes the protection of intellectual property throughout the world through cooperation among countries and manages multilateral agreements that regulate legal and administrative aspects of intellectual property. Ukraine, as a state-founder of the United Nations, became a member of WIPO in 1970 Nowadays Ukraine is a party to 22 treaties administered by WIPO.
In October 2002 between WIPO and of KPI was signed an agreement according to which in particular, the university based on FSL and MMI organized training WIPO Worldwide Academy, on the basis of "KPI"academic conference, seminars, organized distance learning courses, exchange of educational materials, academic information, periodicals.
In July 1, 2010 Francis Gurry visited "KPI", where he participated in a meeting of the Academic Council on the occasion of awarding him the diploma of Doctor of KPI for his personal contribution to improving the international system of intellectual property protection. In celebration of this occasion Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine D. Tabachnyk, Director of Intellectual Property M.V.Paladiy Ministry of Ukraine, Deputy Director of the UN and other international organizations V.Hrystych MFA of Ukraine, representatives of the scientific community, students , the media and others visited KPI
After awarding F.Harri addressed the students and teachers a lecture on the current state of intellectual property. In particular, he focused on issues of intensification of investment in science, geopolitical changes of productive forces in the world, the internationalization of science and technology, changing patterns of innovation, digital technology in the creation of creative products and so on. Today spent $ 7 billion on the creation of new knowledge, and each year this figure will increase, but technology is unevenly distributed in the world. "
Welcoming the guest, D. Tabachnyk said that the twenty-first century can be called as the century of intellectual property: changing content of human labor, knowledge-based economy, so the authority of WIPO in the world will grow. He proposed to consider the question about holding WIPO Forum dedicated to the protection of intellectual property next year in Ukraine, which will help to advance the rules and priorities of WIPO in the CIS, which develop its legislation in accordance with international standards. This event will further the progress of science and education.
