Viktor Ivanovich Trefilov (06.08.1930, Baku - 14.04.2001, Kiev, buried in the Baikov cemetery (plot number 49a)) was the specialist in physics and physics of materials, organizer of science, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1973), academician of the USSR (1987), Honored Scientist of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1988) and the USSR (1974) in the field of science and technology. He was the graduate of the KPI in 1952.
From 1955 to 1968 VI Trefilov worked at the Institute of Metal Physics, where he went the path from the research assistant to the deputy director. In 1969 he headed the Institute of Materials, which soon became one of the largest and most recognized centers in the world in this field of science.
The range of basic and applied research V.I. Trefilov covered a number of the most important areas of modern materials. He created the physical foundations of the theory of strength and ductility of artificial and natural materials of various applications. He is the author of the theory of strain hardening and fracture of polycrystalline metallic materials and the founder of the scientific school, received a well-deserved international recognition. Fundamental research of V.I. Trefilov became the basis for the development of the original complex electro steel processing technologies, which provided a record high combination of strength with ductility, the creation of production technology highly durable steel armor. Under his direction, there were developed the technology of the production so-called viscous ceramic and diamond-like materials, the explosive process of sintering of diamond-like ceramics. These technologies have not yet been implemented in other material science centers around the world, despite intensive work in this direction.
