Sergiy V. Serensen (29.03.1905, Khabarovsk - 05.02.1977, Moscow) - a mechanical engineer, doctor of technical sciences, professor, member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (elected: 22.02.1939, specialty: mechanics, strength in mechanical engineering). A graduate of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1926.

In 1928-1945, he worked at the Institute of Structural Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and Kiev Aviation Institute (1934-41). From 1941 to 1942 he headed simultaneously sector strength under varying stresses in Institute structural mechanics Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and the Department of strength at the engine plant in Ufa. Starting from 1942 S.V. Serensen led the work to ensure the strength of the load-bearing elements of aircraft engines in CIAM of P.I. Baranov, while working with the Institute of the USSR Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Strength Problems, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

For training the personnel, providing research, S.V. Serensen in 1943 headed the department of "Strength of Materials" at the Moscow Aviation Institute of Technology - MATI (part-time), where he worked until his last days. From 1945 he worked at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Academy of Sciences USSR, at the same time (1945 - 1961) headed the department at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and headed the department in the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural Machines Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Author of more than 180 publications, including 20 monographs and textbooks in the field of dynamic strength and durability of machine parts in mechanical engineering.
