On the 11th of November after getting the independence all the streets of Polish cities were filled with euphoria. However, the 11th of November was declared the national holiday by law only in April 1937.
During the Nazi occupation the official celebration of the holiday, as well as other public Polish celebrations, was impossible.
In 1945 the new government declared a holiday of Polish revival the 22nd July, that is the date of signing of the Manifesto of the Polish Committee of National Liberation. The holiday of the 11th of November was restored by Sejm in 1989, during the existence of the People's Republic of Poland.
Nowadays the 11th of November is the main national holiday in Poland. This day is a day off in Poland. The solemnities take place in all Polish cities. It is clear that the main celebrations with senior government leaders are held in Warsaw on the Joseph Piłsudski square in front of the grave of the Unknown Soldier. The holiday is also celebrated in all the embassies of Poland, including Ukrainian one. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Poland in Ukraine Henryk Litwin invited the "KPI" staff, who are activists of the Ukrainian-Polish center, to take part in the holiday celebration in Kyiv.
