3 June at the meeting of the Academic Council the first pro-rector of the University of NAS of Ukraine Yuriy Yakymenko handed a diploma, gown and memorable sign of Honorary Doctor of NTUU "KPI" to Igor Leonardovich Pioro who is a Professor of the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science of the University of Ontario (Canada) the Institute of Technology. Igor Pioro has long-standing and strong relationships with NTUU "KPI".
In 1979 he graduated from its Heat-and-Power Engineering Department and since that time he has hardly interrupted contacts with the University. He collaborates with teachers and researchers of the faculty. He has repeatedly promoted NTUU "KPI" in matters of expanding international cooperation in the field of nuclear power employee training.
Igor Pioro is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME, the American Nuclear Society, the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME). He is an author of 306 publications in total including 8 technical books; 9 chapters in encyclopedias, handbooks and books; 67 papers in refereed journals; 156 papers in refereed proceedings of international and national conferences and symposiums; 26 patents and inventions; 41 major technical reports. He has rewards of the Canadian Nuclear Society Education and Communication, an award of the Research Center UOIT in the category "Senior Researcher"; ICONE American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Nuclear Engineering Division (NED) for the longstanding selfless work and participating in international conferences of the nuclear energy (ICONE ); he also has a Medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the best scientific work of a young scientist and many others. In 2006, Igor Pioro was awarded with the Certificate of Appreciation from the ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Nuclear Engineering Division for valuable contributions in organizing the technical program and contributing to the success of the ICONE-14. In 2007 he received the Certificate of Appreciation from the Organizers of ICONE-15 for valuable contributions in organizing the technical program and contributing to the success of the conference as a Track Leader.
In 2008 Certificate of Appreciation from the ASME Nuclear Engineering Division for valued services as Chair of Steering Committee, Technical Program Chair and Keynote Speaker for ICONE-16 and other awards. In 2008 the book "Transfer Processes in Two-Phase Thermosyphon Systems. Theory and Practice" under the authorship of Bezrodny M.K., Pioro I.L. and Kostiuk T.A. won the first prize of NTUU "KPI" as the best technical book in 2007. "All my achievements I would like to share with my teachers - said Igor Pioro, speaking after he was handed with the insignia of Honorary Doctor of NTUU " KPI ". - Because of them I was able to get an excellent education and realized as a researcher. Working in Canada, I have never forgotten the university, my teachers and classmates, and I have never lost connection with my department."
After the ceremony Professor Pioro appeared in front of the members of the Council of NTUU "KPI" with a report called "Current state of world power," in which he told about the volume of generation and use of energy per capita in different countries, changes in the structure of world power and the trends of its further development.
