Nowadays, in the epoch of the rapid development of Internet technologies research there is an increase in the amount of scientific documentation as well as the amount of universities’ and other scientific institutions’ free archives, periodicals of public access. And here it is a problem: how to find a useful and last but not least – a reliable data in this infinite virtual space?

The Scientific and Technical Library of NTUU "KPI" organizes and leads the digital archive of scientific editions of teachers, scientists on its website, announces new international projects of public access, advising on problems of optimal search of necessary digital resources.

Electronic Resources of The Scientific and Technical Library of NTUU "KPI". Scientific documentation is contained in commercial databases (which cost a lot), and non- commercial, i.e. of public access. Since 2001, when Budapest Open Access Initiative was approved, Open Access Movement is gaining more and more supporters. Open access allows librarians to provide free, fast, permanent, full-text access to scientific documentation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_access). Every year the last week of October is International Open Access Week. This year the actions were held on October 21-27.

Electronic resources (e-resources) of our library presented both prepaid (commercial) edition and those which are freely available. On the site of the library (http://library.kpi.ua/) one can get to know the full list of scientific electronic databases and search engines (Menu: Electronic Resources – Databases). For convenience, they are grouped alphabetically and according to themes. In the general list subscribed editions are listed first, access to which is limited to the IP address of the library, and then – those of public access.

The site of the library presents 76 databases and search engines of public access. It should be noted that the search engines with the help of special programs collect and systematize information from various sources (databases) to service users’ requests and the responsibility for filling and updating of the databases themselves rests upon the administrators of these bases. Maintain a list of databases and search engines requires constant attention and effort to keep the information up to date: some resources disappear, some – appear.
