Academic staff and engineers from the Department of Automation of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Complexes (AEMC) at the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute organized the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the memory of the distinguished scientist and long-serving Head of the Department, Professor Valentyn Chermalykh.
The conference, held in both in-person and online formats, was opened by the current Head of the Department, Serhii Boichenko, who welcomed and introduced the participants. The event brought together 52 researchers and engineers from Kryvyi Rih National University, the Institute of General Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi Kremenchuk National University, the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, and the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automatics of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. The opening ceremony also included the presentation of certificates of appreciation on behalf of the department's leadership to master's students, PhD candidates, academic staff, and industry stakeholders who collaborate with the department in advancing automation technologies in electrical engineering and electromechanics, renewable energy, and hydrogen and biofuel projects.
The conference participants were welcomed by Oksana Vovk, Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management. With the support of the Rector and the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, awards were presented to Associate Professor Alla Bosak of the Department of Automation of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Complexes; PhD candidates Vitalii Korovushkin and Andrii Trachuk; master's students Bohdan Homzyk and Kateryna Samchynska; and the department's partners and stakeholders, including Nadiia Marchenko (Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), Artur Zaporozhets (Institute of General Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), Petro Shevchyk (Schneider Electric Ukraine), and Oleh Yurchenko and Leonid Mazurenko (Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), among others.
Recalling the full title of the event—"Modern Automation Technologies in Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics" (in the context of Professor V. M. Chermalykh's scientific legacy and the current research focus of the Department of Automation of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Complexes)—Serhii Boichenko invited participants to familiarize themselves with a brief biography of the distinguished scientist published in the Kyiv Polytechnic newspaper (see Issues No. 19–20, 2026). Colleagues and former associates then shared their memories of Professor Chermalykh. Among the speakers were Oleh Sinchuk, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Kryvyi Rih National University; Serhii Kovbasa, Head of the Department of Automation of Electromechanical Systems and Electric Drives at the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and Automatics of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; Oleh Yurchenko, Head of the Department of Transistor Converters at the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; and Mykola Serhiienko, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geoengineering of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management.
It is worth noting that an initiative group, including former students of Professor V. M. Chermalykh, prepared a video presentation dedicated to his life and academic legacy. The presentation was written and produced by one of Professor Chermalykh's former students, Oleksandr Danilin, Associate Professor at the Department of Automation of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Complexes.
During the scientific sessions, participants worked in three thematic areas: "Renewable Energy, Hydrogen Technologies and Energy Efficiency," "Electric Drives, Electromechanical Systems and Industrial Automation," and "Intelligent Control Systems, Automation and Digital Technologies." The audience showed particular interest in the presentations delivered by students, who participated both in person and online. Attendees highlighted the high quality, practical relevance, and professional presentation of the students' research and engineering projects.
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants agreed to make the event an annual tradition, expanding its geographic reach across Ukraine and actively encouraging the participation of undergraduate and PhD students from the energy-related faculties and institutes of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
