On June 7, the university and the medical unit of one of the military units signed a memorandum of cooperation. From now on, students, postgraduates and teachers of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Ergotherapy of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering will be able to undergo training, improve their skills, and conduct research at the hospital where our military are undergoing physical and psychological rehabilitation.
"The department has a relevant specialty, which is responsible for rehabilitation of those who need it. Now, during the war, there are wounded who need a rehabilitation period before surgery. It can be rehabilitation when a person's limbs are preserved and operated on, but they need to restore mobility and efficiency. Another category is people who need prosthetics. After the surgery and the installation of the prosthesis, there should be a period of training, getting the person used to using the device and maximizing the recovery of functions.
"We have a lot of work to do in this area: new prostheses and new designs appear, and we need to study and master them. And the specialty of a rehabilitation therapist is directly related to this process," explains Vitaliy Pasichnyk, Vice-Rector for Research at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
