From July 5 to 8, the jubilee XV International Open Student Programming Olympiad named after S.O. Lebedev and V.M. Glushkova "KPI-OPEN" was held at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Its main organizers were the Department of Educational Work and representatives of FIOT, IASA, FTI.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine restrictions in our and other countries, this year's competition was held remotely for the first time.

However, achieving the main goal - attracting students and youth to intellectual competitions, promoting the acquisition of hard and soft skills, developing links between universities, providing contacts between students from different cities and countries, networking with leading IT companies - was not disturbed by such a format of the Olympiad.

This year, 90 teams from seven countries (Hungary, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Kingdom of Spain, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Lithuania, Ukraine), 44 higher education institutions from 22 cities have registered to participate. Note that in total for 15 years of this tournament , 950 teams, 165 higher education institutions from 75 cities and in total more than 3800 students took part in it.

Each team consisted of 2-3 students under the guidance of a teacher-mentor. The competition was held in two rounds. The first round took place on July 5. Participants had to solve six tasks in five hours. The second took place on July 7, and included eight tasks for which participants had six hours. The main programming languages were Python, C ++, C #, Java.

During the remote tasks, the participants' workplaces were equipped with video surveillance. The teams were closely monitored by student observers for 11 hours (two rounds in total).

On July 6, four webinars were held from sponsors-partners of the Olympiad.

Huawei was the general sponsor. Genesis, SoftServe, NetCrecker also sponsored the Olympiad.

Based on the results of the stages and the results of the appeals, the members of the panel of judges determined the winner and prize-winners of the Olympiad. Note that the winner of the Olympiad is the team that received the highest total rating for both stages, and other places are distributed in descending order of the total rating.

So, according to the results of the competition, the winners' cup was won by the team "Energy is not over" (Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, Ukraine).

The second place was taken by "LNU_BullDogs" (Lviv Franko National University, Ukraine); "Lacrimosa" (Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics and Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine).

Third place - "UAIC EndGame" (Iasi Kuza University, Romania); "Hungry Team" (Etvesha Budapest University, Hungary); "UAIC InfinityWar” (Iasi Kuza University, Romania).;

On July 5-8, 2021, the 15th International Open International Student Olympiad in Programming named after S.O.Lebedev and V.M.Hlushkov will take place. Any student of a higher education institution from any country of the world can participate in the Olympiad. All students must confirm that they study at a higher education institution on applying for registration.

The Olympiad aims to draw public attention to intellectual competitions among students, promote intellectual development and teamwork, raise the professional level of young specialists, develop inter-university relations, and establish personal contacts between students of different cities and countries. At the same time, IT companies that join the Olympiad get a great chance to find new employees among the best of the best.

There is also a tradition of holding presentations, seminars, and lectures at the Olympiad. During these events, IT specialists share their practical experience and knowledge. They also introduce young programmers to the challenges facing the industry at this stage.
