During the meeting on the highest level between the President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich and the Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kana, that was held on the 16th of January 2011, in the course of discussion of the state and prospects of the bilateral partnership the Heads of two countries mention the functioning of the Ukrainian-Japanese Centre of NTUU "KPI". In the "Mutual declaration between the President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich and Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kana about Ukrainian-Japanese global partnership" was written: "…Among various types of activities of the Centre the two Heads pointed out that the technical cooperation on Japanese projects and management of programs were extremely important for the development of particular branches of Ukrainian economy. They admitted that the Centre must remain being an important element of bilateral partnership in the realm of science and technology, stimulation of investments, learning Japanese language, mutual enrichment of the cultures, increasing the level of the mutual understanding with the active involving of all parts interested from the both countries..."
Such a high rating of the Centre's activity and its meaning for the development of bilateral relations between two countries is an indisputable appreciation of services of its workers and its head Osamu Mizutani above all. Osamu Mizutani works in Ukraine since 2009: initially as a director of the project of technical cooperation "Ukrainian-Japanese Centre"; Japanese international cooperation agency (JICA) which is aimed at the development of Ukrainian-Japanese Centre of NTUU "KPI" and Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation and then as a head of this Centre. Over the years he has become an extremely respected in the university person and, without any doubts, greatly outstanding. Indeed, during the period of his leadership of the Ukrainian-Japanese Centre, more than 150 Ukrainian experts took part in more than 20, organized by the Centre in Japan, trainings in different fields, such as: energy efficiency, agriculture, economy etc; the course of studies "Hiroshima-Nagasaki: lessons of peace" was initiated; "Educational-research centre of X-ray diffraction analysis of NTUU "KPI" - "RIGAKU" was created; lecture and seminars of the outstanding Japanese scientists and cultural workers were organized; three fairs of Japanese universities "Education in Japan" were held with the participation of the leading universities, higher institutions and schools of Japan etc. Moreover, the initiated cooperation with Japan Foundation made it possible to hold a range of extremely interesting events for those who are fond of the culture of the land of the setting sun and create a Japanese Language Centre, "Ukrainian-Japanese Centre" which allows more than 400 Ukrainian citizens to learn Japanese language. However, unfortunately, the residence time of Osamu Mizutani as a head of Ukrainian-Japanese Centre of NTUU "KPI" has ended. He and his wife Keiko San, which was by his side all the time, come back to their motherland. Thus to signify the recognition of his services and expression of gratitude for his contribution to the setting of cooperation between NTUU "KPI" with the universities and research laboratories of Japan and overall improvement of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation, on the 3rd of June on the meeting of the Academic council of the university he was rewarded with a honorable decoration of the Academic council of NTUU "KPI" to a thunderous ovation of all the present. by Dmytro Stefanovich
