The monument is dedicated to the first Kyiv Soviet of Workers' Deputies, which in November-December 1905 played a significant role in the revolutionary movement in the city. Its first plenum was held on 30 October at the main building of KPI. On November 18, the Soviet supported the rebellion led by B. Zhadanivskyi announcing a general political strike. After the defeat of the uprising and the introduction of martial law in Kiev it operated underground. On December 12 after its decision a general strike of the workers of the city began. During this period, she became the center and the only recognized authority of thу workers’ “Shuliavska Republic”created in the factory district of Kyiv.
On December 17, 1905 the members of the Kyiv Soviet of Workers' Deputies were arrested, the troops entered the territory of KPI.
Three-dimensional architectural and sculptural composition of the monument consists of rectangular blocks of gray granite, installed vertically on stylobate of four granite slabs. At the top of the architectural cubage, the middle granite block is pushed back and a bronze sculptural group of five figures is mounted, which represents the participants of revolutionary events. In the center, there are two workers – one with a banner that says "Down with Tsarism", the other is intensely moving forward. Next to them, there is a student in a long overcoat; on both sides, there are two workers with guns. The plastic of sculptural figures in realistic, historical attributes are recreated in details. On the male side of the monument, there is an annotative inscription with overhead bronze letters.
The monument organically fits in the current architectural and natural landscape of the institute complex.
The inscription on the plinth says: "In this building in October-December 1905, acted the first Soviet of Workers' Deputies in Kyiv.
