Scientific readings from the series "Outstanding designers of Ukraine", initiated by the State Polytechnic Museum, are conducted over the past 10 years, four times a year and enjoy the same success among students and faculty.
Some of the readings in the past year were devoted to Ivan Vasilyevich Kudryavtsev - founder and first director of the Research Institute "Kvant". KPI for "Kvant" was and remains the smithy of engineering personnel.
I would like to once again remember the I.V. Kudryavtsev - as a courageous and talented man, who in July of 2011, would have turned 90 years old.
Kudryavtsev headed the Research Institute "Kvant" for 17 years, from 1958 to 1975 - until his last breath. Before heading up the design office, and in 1958 it was the Special Design Bureau-483 (SDB) of the Ministry of Aviation Industry of the USSR, Kudryavtsev participated in the Finnish war, was awarded the Order of the Red Star and lost a leg as a result of injury. The definition of the medical certificate "Suitable for retraining an accountant ...", and he was only 20 years old, does not stop Kudryavtseva. He enters the Leningrad Air Force Academy M.E. Zhukovsky and in 1945 successfully graduated it, embodying the knowledge gained in the development of radar industry of the USSR.
Since 1958, his life and work were inextricably linked with Kiev. It was he, a man who knows the need to ensure the country's defense not from the theory, has been entrusted to lead the OKB-483, specializing in the development of radar systems for aircraft. The Design Bureau I. Kudryavtsev launched extensive research and development of new radar systems to maintain protection and exploration of strategic forces of the Soviet Navy. In 1960, under the leadership Kudryavtsev on the base of OKB-483 it was established Research Institute SRI-132, in the future - Research Institute "Kvant". Since that time, it was manifested his brilliant talent as a scientist and a successful manager. With the advent of the military missile forces it has become necessary to detect targets at distant approaches (hundreds of kilometers) and aim the targeting missiles, especially in the vastness of the ocean and sea. The team of "Kvant" met the needs of the army, creating a sophisticated radar system. After its adoption main designers, including I.V. Kudryavtsev, were awarded the State Prize, and the group of active developers were awarded government awards. Every year the requirements for radar equipment grew, and to meet them it was necessary to create a special digital computer technology. Kudryavtsev had set the task of creating this technique - and it was created. In 1972, the Research Institute made the first prototype of a special electronic computer "Carat", which was able to operate reliably for surface ships and submarines. For this purpose it took to develop and master the production of microelements.
More than 50 types of radar systems and complexes were developed in the Research Institute "Kvant". There was among them the system, which had no analogues in the world of military technology, which ensured parity of the Soviet Union during the "Cold War". "Uspekh" was installed on ships,"Topaz" - for the determination of low-flying aircraft, "Ecran" - for navigation and propulsion of the ship, "Octopus" - to search for submarines, "Holm" - a device for detecting targets with a help of the thermal imager, "Breeze" - automated device escort ships ...
"Kvant" was also engaged in the creation of the automated systems of navigation and maintenance of large ships for various purposes, to provide them with safe navigation systems, medical equipment and household purposes. To solve these problems it was sometimes necessary to attract hundreds (400) enterprises in the USSR. There were situations when for solving various technical issues it was lacked power of allied enterprises, and then Kudryavtsev initiated development of the necessary design trends directly in his company.
With a time the Research Institute "Kvant" began to perform the most complex orders for peaceful everyday life. In the institute there was appeared a department of medical technology, and the very first of its development - the device "Urat" - has received worldwide recognition. The device was intended for the treatment of urolithiasis diseases without surgery. Its action is based on the destruction of stones in the ureter by a hydraulic shock caused by collision with ultrasound probe to a solid. Production models and a license for its production were purchased by Britain, Germany, France, and Japan. Subsequently it was began the development of medical devices based on the use of ultrasonic energy for treating colds, and other urological disorders. There were created medical devices "Promin" and "Caucasus" for bloodless surgery with a laser beam. These devices are used until now during such operations.
I.V. Kudryavtsev paid great attention to the preparation of highly qualified scientific personnel, thanks to him, the Institute was established postgraduate and Certification Commission for the Protection of theses and awarding academic degrees. Research Institute developed its own doctors and candidates of technical sciences, developed strong technology services, built pilot production plant "Kvant-2" and the factory production "Burevestnik".
As a wise visionary leader I.Kudryavtsev exercised extreme care about the social and everyday life of workers. During his leadership, there were built 20 residential apartment buildings for workers Research Institute, there were created family recreations on the Desna and the Dnieper, built kindergartens and nurseries.
He cared about the completion of the Institute professional staff. Research Institute had its own college to train young professional workers. For many years, the Institute has been the patronage of secondary school number 32, where the building was built for the professional training of pupils locksmith, milling, turning, carpentry and assembly skills. In another sponsored school in the 70s by the Institute it was organized a special class of computer science and programming, was donated computer "Razdan" and leading specialists of the Research Institute lectured for students.
The high scientific potential of the Research Institute "Kvant" is indicated by the author's part of the scientific readings in memory I.V. Kudryavtsev. The list of lectures includes - Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Adviser to the Director of the Institute of Cybernetics, Boris Malinovsky; doctor of technical sciences, professor, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, former chief engineer of the Research Institute "Kvant" Boris Yulianovich Tuck; former director of the plant "Burevestnik", laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, vice president of UUIB Vitaly Maiko; Professor, Party secretary of the Research Institute "Kvant" at I.V.Kudryavtsev Dmitri Bogdanovich Golovko. Natalia Kudryavtseva with warmth and sincere respect for his colleagues recalled her father .
Ivan Kudryavtsev lived a short life of 54 years. But he lived so that after his death the people who knew him and worked with him twice a year, is laying flowers at his grave as a tribute to his talent.
