May 14 XV International Scientific Conference Academician Mikhail Kravchuk started its work at the physical auditorium of NTUU "KPI".
The conference is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding ukrainian mathematician of the last century, a full member of UAS and other scientific communities, long-term teacher KPI, Ukrainian intellectual and patriot, martyred in the Kolyma camps in the early 40-ies of XX century. For several decades, known throughout the world the name of Mikhail Kravchuk in the USSR was not desirable even remember. And only after Ukraine gained independence, it took its rightful place in the official history of science. In 1992, Ukraine celebrated the centenary of his birth, surname Kravchuk was entered in the International Calendar of prominent academics UNESCO. At the same time the first conference of his name was held.
The main purpose of conferences named after Mikhail Kravchuk - generalize, encourage research mathematicians from different countries at the same time paying tribute to the great scientist and patriot of Ukraine. This year mathematics from Ukraine, Algeria, Austria, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic sent more than 500 reports to the conference.
The conference began with a solemn ceremony. Opened her First pro-rector of NTUU "KPI" NASU academician Yuri Yakimenko opened it.
The person who can justly be called the soul and driving force of this meeting of mathematicians all over the world, - Professor of mathematical analysis and probability theory at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty Dr. Nina Virchenko took the floor after him. She was the initiator of the conference and put in it all her soul.
It is thanks to her that seemingly purely scientific event becomes a significant event in the cultural life of Kiev. No wonder not only the organizers and participants of the conference take part in the opening but also traditionally public figures as well as Ukrainian artists. So in May 15 scientists were congratulated by the long political prisoner, the famous writer and philosopher Eugene Sverstyuk, dissident and prisoner of the Soviet regime Gregory Kutsenko, Professor of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Igor Parasyuk museum Mikhail Kravchuk director in his native village of Volyn region Chovnitsa Eugene Lukashuk, poetess Maria Morozenko and others. Celebration was ended by performances of the honored artist of Ukraine, famous violinist and composer Kyrylo Stetsenko and one of the most outstanding performer of kobzar doom and Ukrainian ancient music Taras Kompanchenko.
Then the participants started to work in the sections "Differential and Integral Equations and their application", "Algebra. Geometry. Mathematical Analysis ", "Probability theory and mathematical statistics" and "History and methodology of mathematics. "
