Physical therapy, ergotherapy (Physical Rehabilitation, Physical therapy) is a type of treatment that uses physical exercises and natural factors to restore the health, lost functions, physical condition and performance of patients. Ergotherapy is aimed at adapting to daily life, restoring and maintaining the necessary everyday self-care skills, actions aimed at socializing and developing the patient.
Physical therapy is used as an independent treatment and in combination with other treatments for the disease. And also for the purpose of prevention of complications and relapses of a disease.
The physical therapist, in team with the doctors, analyzes the patient’s disease, functional status and motor activity, discusses the physical therapy plan and prepares an individual recovery program.
The goals of physical therapy are: restoration of amplitude of movements, strengthening of muscles, increase of endurance of an organism, improvement of coordination of movements of reduction or elimination of pain sensations, restoration of normal functional state of separate organs and systems and organism as a whole.
Physical therapists survey patients to identify impaired motor functions and determine the possibility of their recovery, develop and execute an individual physical therapy plan in collaboration with other specialists (doctors, family members, social workers, psychologists) and the patient.
Physical therapy consists of special, individually designed physical exercises and exercises using a whole arsenal of technical means. A physical therapist can also use manual therapy, massage and physiotherapy (heat, cold, electrotherapy). An important component of physical therapy is to educate the patient in performing certain exercises, procedures, self-care skills, and self-care.
Patients with physical therapists are patients with injuries and deformities of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular, neurological and mental diseases; acquired and birth defects; after surgery; infectious and chronic diseases; those who require gradual adaptation to physical and mental workloads of a professional and everyday nature; development of self-care skills, development of permanent compensation for irreversible changes.
In cases of disability of the patient, a specialist in physical therapy, ergotherapy helps the patient to develop new movements and compensatory skills, teaches him to use dentures and other technical devices, apparatus, trains the patient to perform holistic movements.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy, ergotherapy is taken by persons who have completed a complete general secondary education or educational qualification of a junior specialist in nursing.
List of competitive subjects in the certificate of the Ukrainian Center for Education Quality Assessment (entrance exam):
Ukrainian language and literature – not less than 100 points
Biology or Chemistry – at least 125 points, provided that Physics or Mathematics – at least 100 points
Physics or Mathematics – at least 125 points, provided that Biology or Chemistry – at least 100 points
For graduates of medical colleges in specialties 5.12010101, 5.12010102, 5.12010103, 5.12010105, 5.12010108 for 1 course of the educational program of accelerated preparation of the bachelor – professional test: anatomy, physiology.
Training period:
4 years – with the acquisition of educational qualification level “Bachelor” (on the basis of full secondary education);
3 years – with the acquisition of educational-qualification level “Bachelor” (on the basis of education of junior specialist);
1.5-2 years – with the acquisition of educational and qualification level “Master”.

To acquire knowledge, practical skills, competencies of a highly qualified health care specialist in the field of physical therapy, a wide range of humanities, natural sciences and specialty disciplines are presented in the curricula of specialist training:
human anatomy and physiology;
basics of medical knowledge;
biochemistry, hygiene;
sports medicine, sports physiology and more.
Professional and practical training is provided by the development of such subjects as: General massage; massage rehabilitation; basics of physical rehabilitation; physiotherapy; technical and orthopedic means in physical rehabilitation; wellness swimming and hydro-kinesitherapy; physical therapy (FT), ergotherapy in traumatology and orthopedics; kinesiotherapy; FT in neurosurgery; FT in surgical diseases; FT in diseases of the internal organs; FT in diseases of the nervous system; FT in diseases of the cardiovascular system and the like.
There are many sports clubs operating at the faculty, and the vast majority of the faculty members of the clubs are masters of sports.
The Faculty cooperates with various medical establishments, rehabilitation centers, clinics, fitness centers, institutions, leading educational institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, institutes and institutions of NAS of Ukraine, scientific-production and methodological-biological Centers and enterprises, using the latest foreign technologies and tools in the educational process of training specialists.

Students of the Department of Biosafety and Human Health take an active part in student scientific conferences, competitions “Best in Specialty”, Brain Rings and more. The department has a scientific student circle.
