This year it’s Eugene Viktorovskyy’s 90th birthday and 60 yearfrom his death (9 October 1926 - 19 December 1956) – famous Ukrainian mathematician, whose name is now known all over the world. The last years of his short life EugeneViktorovskyy worked at the Department of Mathematics of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute, headed at that time by Professor Alexander Smohorzhevskyy, and took post-graduate course under the guidance of corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences Evgene Remez. His PhD thesis "Integral curves of the discontinuos direction field" was so significanto that after the defence the specialized council of the Radio Engineering Faculty of the Polytechnic Institute unanimously decided to award him the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
Eugene Viktorovskyy’s figure, unfortunately, is not only undervalued, but also not well-known to the public in Ukraine. In fact, like many other names of extraordinary personalities of various fields of human activity, whose achievements are decently appraised anywhere, but for Ukraine.
The story "Another Spring” which is offered to your attention helps fill this gap. It’s written in the seventies of the last century by a famous Ukrainian journalist, poet and writer, author of biographical books about Ukrainian scholars and art tales about mathematics – Mykola Soroka. For a number of reasons it hasn’t been printed till nowadays. So, this publication will be the first. The "Kyiv politehnik" editorial is grateful to the author for giving the opportunity to publish this very interesting on its front pages, and is sure sure that a separate its publication will appear very soon. It should be noted that the story is printed in the author's edition of that time, that is, as it was written over 40 years ago. This can be seen in some places in the text, which, in our opinion, allows you to experience the peculiarities of the years, almost tangential to the days when Yevgene Viktorovskyy was working.
