On the occasion of Science Day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, where he met with Ukrainian scientists and presented them with state awards and certificates conferring honorary titles.
"Science is about life for all of us—about how to protect it, how to help people, and how to turn ideas into reality. Some things may seem absolutely impossible, but thanks to talented and brilliant people, they become real. I want to thank you for keeping science alive and advancing in Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President presented scientists with the Orders of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (4th and 5th Class), the Order of Merit (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class), and the Order of Princess Olha (3rd Class). He also conferred the honorary titles Honored Doctor of Ukraine and Honored Education Worker of Ukraine.
Among those awarded the honorary title Honored Education Worker of Ukraine was Serhii Naida, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
In turn, the participants thanked the President of Ukraine for his continued support of science and its development. They emphasized that the current level of government support for research is the highest since Ukraine regained its independence.
The meeting also focused on the future development of scientific research and the implementation of projects aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. The discussion covered further improvements to the country's air defense systems, particularly the development of advanced air defense and anti-ballistic technologies. Special attention was also given to new space technologies and the potential integration of university research and student innovations into Ukraine's national space program. The participants also discussed the importance of supporting other socially significant research projects, including their funding, implementation, and scaling.
"We are committed to increasing salaries and expanding funding for relevant programs. We will do everything we can. We have already learned that where there are technologies, there are opportunities—there is strong defense, strong science, and a strong army. Today, all of these are inseparably connected," the President emphasized.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also presented with Ukrainian scientific developments in the fields of defense and medicine.
