A solemn ceremony of raising the blue and yellow flag and laying flowers was held at Igor Sikorsky KPI on the occasion of the Day of the State Flag and Independence Day of Ukraine

Students, teachers, university staff, and guests of honor gathered at Knowledge Square, including the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Igor Sikorsky KPI, Oleksandr Kornienko. They honored one of the three main state symbols — the flag, which embodies the sovereignty of Ukraine.

"I congratulate the entire large family of Kyiv Polytechnic University on the upcoming holidays. Next to us is Knowledge Square, where many historical events took place, and the KPI Palace of Culture and Arts, where the restoration of Ukrainian independence actually began with the founding congress of the People's Movement. Here, at KPI, you and your colleagues have raised hundreds, thousands of truly responsible citizens who have become renowned engineers and artists. Here, dozens of our brothers, heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine's independence, were raised," said Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Igor Sikorsky KPI.

After the solemn speeches, the participants of the ceremony laid flowers at the monument to Kyiv Polytechnic students who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Among them are soldiers who were posthumously awarded the title of Heroes of Ukraine.

A special symbol of remembrance for our university community is the Ukrainian battle flag in the lobby of the first building of KPI, which belonged to FSP student Vladislav Dyusov, recipient of the Order of Courage, III degree (posthumously).

Today, KPI students defend our country, study, teach, conduct research, and volunteer under the blue and yellow flag.
