Rector of Kyiv Polytechnic Mykhailo Zgurovsky, Vice-Rector for Research Vitalii Pasichnyk, Director of the World Data Centre for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development Kostiantyn Yefremov, Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biotechnics Tetiana Todosiychuk and Head of the World Data Centre's Geographic Information Systems Laboratory Serhii Gapon met with the guests (photo left).
The meeting participants discussed the most promising areas of possible cooperation for both universities. In the current military environment, the issue of improving the country's food security will undoubtedly become its defining direction, both as one of the important components of overall security and as a prerequisite for ensuring our country's foreign economic activity. Among the possible projects discussed during the conversation was the development of joint activities in line with the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Irrigation and Drainage Strategy in Ukraine until 2030, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at the end of 2020. For a number of objective and subjective reasons, most of the provisions of this document have not been implemented. However, Russian aggression, which is leading to a rapid degradation of the potential of irrigation and drainage systems in the country and destroying the environmental safety of national agricultural production, has made the need to work in this area even more urgent. Therefore, this area requires the fastest possible implementation of modern scientific and engineering solutions in all areas defined by the Plan in most regions of Ukraine, but, of course, primarily in the south of our country.
Serhii Gapon informed the guests about the developments in precision agriculture of the Geographic Information Systems Laboratory and the work of its employees, and Tetiana Todosiychuk spoke about some research projects that scientists, teachers and students of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biotechnology are working on that may be of interest to potential partners.
After the discussion, Mykhailo Zgurovsky proposed to create a joint group of representatives of both universities to formulate tasks and areas of activity, taking into account what has already been done at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and could be useful in launching specific projects, as well as to outline further steps for their implementation.
In the end, the participants agreed to prepare a memorandum that would set out the terms, directions, and forms of joint activities, sign it, and start working. The document has been prepared, is undergoing final approvals, and the new partners will soon start working together.
