Dear polytechnics! On May 8, Kyiv Polytechnics, together with millions of people around the world, celebrate the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II of 1939-1945. In these days of May, we honor those who had to go through its deadly fire.
The Second World War was the most horrific war, including in Ukrainian history. We remember that more than 10 million Ukrainians laid down their lives in this terrible tragedy to make it possible for us to live freely. 163 students, teachers and staff of KPI paid with their lives for the Victory of 1945.
In our quest for independence and freedom, we are now once again forced to take up arms to defend our choices and rights. The Russian-Ukrainian war has been raging for more than ten years. Thousands of dead and wounded, millions of refugees, and completely destroyed cities and villages. Almost three million deported Ukrainian citizens and more than 744 thousand children have been illegally removed from the temporarily occupied territories.
Unfortunately, our team has also suffered losses. Eighty-eight Kyiv Polytechnic graduates, including five Heroes of Ukraine, gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Eternal and bright memory to the fallen.
From the first hours of the Russian aggression, the teachers, staff, and students of our university stood up to defend their homeland. Nowadays, there are thousands of polytechnics in the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, voluntary formations, and the volunteer community.
The university does not stop its work during the war. The educational process continues, conditions are created for the admission of new students, and the main activities are ensured.
Polytechnics provide comprehensive assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The university founded a charitable organization "Kyiv Polytechnic Charitable Foundation for Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine". Teachers, researchers, staff, and students participate in numerous programs to develop the latest weapons and military equipment, as well as means of protecting soldiers on the battlefield.
Our resistance, our faith in the Victory will not be broken, because the truth and our native land are behind us!
History shows that our people are invincible!
Glory to the defenders of Ukraine of all times!
Glory to Ukraine!
With gratitude and respect
Mykhailo Zgurovsky, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
