On March 17, Yuriy Franzovych Zinkovskyi, a prominent Ukrainian scientist, educator, educational organizer, professor, doctor of technical sciences, academician of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, and winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, turned 90.
Yuriy Franzovych was born in 1933 in the city of Kozyatyn, Vinnytsia region. In Kyiv, where his father was transferred to after World War II, he graduated from high school with a gold medal and entered the Polytechnic Institute. In 1956, he graduated from KPI with a degree in Electronic Devices and a qualification as a physics engineer. He was engaged in the development of diagnostic systems for low-temperature plasma, powerful quantum generators, and pulsed autonomous power systems. In 1964, he defended his PhD thesis, in 1967 he became a senior researcher, and in 1974 he became a doctor of technical sciences. In 1978, he was appointed Head of the Department of Radio Equipment Design and Production of the Faculty of Radio Engineering of the KPI, which he headed until 2012.
Professor Zinkovskyi researches the problems of professional pedagogy and is the author of the concept of engineering education in Ukraine, one of the developers of a multi-level education system and qualification requirements for bachelors, specialists, and masters. Under his leadership, a new scientific direction for improving technical education based on a new constructive teaching technology that combines professional and humanitarian training of specialists was substantiated.
Yuriy Zinkovskyi is the author of more than 500 scientific works, including monographs, textbooks, and manuals; he has received 35 copyright certificates for inventions and patents of Ukraine. He has trained 5 doctors and 14 candidates of science.
Today, he successfully combines his academic work with research. Yuriy Franzovych's scientific activity is characterized by a wide range of ideas and achievements. He is an expert in the field of radio engineering, electronics, technical information protection, computer design, and electronic hardware technologies. He is a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (elected in 1999), Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (1989), holds the honorary title of "Outstanding Worker of NTUU "KPI" (2016), winner of the State Prize of the USSR (1976), winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2003). On March 13, this year, the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute awarded him the award "For Devotion and Service to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute".
Over the years, Professor Zinkovskyi has been the chairman of the expert council of the State Assessment Commission of Ukraine, the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine, the scientific and methodological commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, a member of the section of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, and a member of specialized academic councils. He has been awarded many state awards, academic insignia of K.D. Ushynsky, "For Scientific Achievements", "Petro Mohyla", "Volodymyr Monomakh", "Hryhorii Skovoroda".
