To mark the 125th anniversary of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", a book dedicated to its history and present has been published. It is called "KPI: the second century. Continuation of traditions".
In terms of design and concept, this book is a continuation of the publication created for the university's centenary. It opens with a very detailed historical essay on the foundation and development of the university, covering the entire period of its existence - from the idea of its creation to the beginning of the new millennium. This section contains many new, hitherto unknown facts from the KPI's past and a significant number of illustrative materials that have never been published before.
However, most of the publication is devoted to the current state of the university and its departments. And how could it be otherwise: the last quarter of a century has changed Kyiv Polytechnic perhaps even more than the previous few decades. Especially the period from 2014 to the present, that is, from the beginning of Russia's armed aggression against our country, and later its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, to the present day. Therefore, this volume covers in detail the work of the faculties and departments of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the achievements of its scientific schools, as well as its innovative activities and the principles on which the educational process at the university and the research activities of its staff are now based. It also outlines the ways of its further development.
"The preparation of the content of this publication was provided by a large number of employees of our university," said Mykhailo Ilchenko, deputy editor-in-chief, chairman of the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, presenting a signal copy of the book at a meeting of the university administration on August 21, "and more than 80 people working in our various departments helped to implement this project.
And it is true: among its authors are university leaders and heads and employees of educational and research institutes and faculties; KPI veterans for whom the history of the university is a significant part of their lives; teachers and researchers of the departments who are creating its history today. And dozens more polytechnics who contributed to the preparation of this elegant publication in one way or another.
An interesting, new feature of this book for the domestic publishing industry is the use of QR codes in it, which allow the reader to learn more about certain episodes of the university's life: by reading these codes with a smartphone, you can view old newsreels, modern video materials, read various publications about Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The publication was made at the expense of sponsors, and its electronic version is planned to be posted on the university's Internet resources.
You will soon be able to read about the large-scale achievements of our university and individual faculties / institutes on the pages of the anniversary edition - "KPI. The second century. Continuation of traditions".
