Through the pages of the history of Kyiv Polytechnic
The exhibition of copies of documents and publications on the history of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the university "Pages of the History of Kyiv Polytechnic" has been opened in the H.I. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library. Its exhibits are located in the lobby of the first floor, and the continuation is in the reading room on the third floor.
During the tour of the exposition, which was conducted for the KP correspondent by the leading librarian of the Department of Rare and Valuable Documents of the NTL Lyudmyla Mykolaivna Hunko, there is a feeling of timelessness and unity with the eternal, because among the copies of books and photographs there are many printed editions - eternal monuments of the chronicles of the capital's polytechnic.
"The library's book repositories also contain many old periodicals of the XIX-XX centuries, which depict the turbulent era of the emergence and development of many branches of science and technology. In our collection you can find scientific journals such as Zodchiy, Inzhener, Dingler's polytechnisches journal, Vestnik Technologa (late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century publications), and others. There is also an album from 1902, presented to the first rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Viktor Lvovych Kyrpychov," says Liudmyla Mykolaivna and demonstrates this tome.
"An illustrated collection of materials on the history of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In memory of Viktor Lvovych Kyrpychov" is also presented. It will help the curious to imagine the situation with the state of technical education in the late nineteenth century in the Russian Empire. The history of the institute's origin and formation, the construction of its buildings, and the organization of the educational process will be of interest to those who are knowledgeable. The exhibition also offers visitors an essay "On the Development and Current State of the Chemical Department," lists of students, administrative regulations, rules, reports on the activities of the faculties, photographs, and many interesting documents about the creation and functioning of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. And if you intend to delve deeper into the main scientific sources of the collection on the history of KPI, then you should familiarize yourself with the publications dedicated to individuals who are somehow connected with the university. The multifaceted literature includes biographies, memoirs, and memoirs of scientists and engineers that reveal unknown pages, aspects of life and everyday life of the faculty and students.
Let's move on to Hall 3.5 of the Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library. The exhibition "Pages of the History of Kyiv Polytechnic" continues here, and original documents are on display.
"A book exhibition is a complex of specially selected and systematized documents arranged in such a way as to attract the attention of readers, to interest them or to satisfy an existing interest or information need. "Of course, the main goal of any exhibition is to popularize the book and provide some information," explains Liudmyla Hunko. "Our readers are people with different needs. For some, it is enough to get acquainted with a brief overview of the collection of the Department of Rare and Valuable Documents. And some of the library's regulars need detailed information about the original documents. That is why we have divided the exhibition expositions."
In conclusion, we would like to note that the part of the exhibition displayed in the library's lobby was open until September 16, while the one in reading room 3.5 will be open for viewing until the end of the year.
