As part of the Sikorsky Challenge Festival of Innovative Projects, a panel discussion on the development of technologies in medical engineering took place at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Researchers of our university, managers of medical start-ups and leaders in the medical field discussed current trends in medical engineering, steps towards the creation of digital hospitals, and the provision of healthcare facilities with engineering staff. University specialists are expected to be involved in the creation of telemedicine centres, which with the assist of gadgets will help patients get advice and detailed treatment regimens without visiting the hospital, which is especially important during a pandemic.

One of the important results of the discussion was an agreement concluded between the Heart Institute, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Kyiv Polytechnic Science Park, Sikorsky Challenge Innovation Holding and Pandemic Response Ukraine. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute will create elements for artificial hearts for the Heart Institute , as well as developments for the conservation and transportation of organs for transplantation. Cooperation is planned to expand in other areas of medicine.

“Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute can produce almost any equipment - there are no problems. The only problem is the lack of funds for the purchase of materials, ,microcircuits, etc. Biomedical engineering is a direction in which the state should invest, it is a direction of economic and social development of Europe. There are wide market opportunities and a great need of the population, "said Professor Vitaliy Maksymenko, Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.

"Modern medicine cannot exist without innovations in diagnostics and treatment methods, without computer graphics and radioisotopes, and so on. Unfortunately, only the hands of surgeons no longer save. Therefore, we try to implement all the ideas that come from engineers, technologists, IT specialists in medicine and achieve the best results in our field, "said the head of the Heart Institute Borys Todurov.
