Donor Day has become traditional for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as this year the event was held for the 12th time already. On this day, students voluntarily donate blood to those who need it. The event is organized by Student Social Department of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute together with Kyiv City Blood Center.
"Our goal is to bring up a culture of donation in Ukraine, to promote and support the state program of blood donation promotion, thus reducing dependence on family and paid donations, to encourage voluntary donation of blood through various activities", – comments Natalya Seminsky, Pro-Rector for Educational Work of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and with Kyiv City Blood Center have signed a memorandum of cooperation, which means that such activities will be held in the future.
«The point of this memorandum is that we want to cooperate with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. There will be some events, lectures related to donations and donor days like today. We hope that such fruitful cooperation will continue in the future», – noted Oksana Marinyuk, Deputy Director for Organizational and Methodological Issues of Kyiv City Blood Center.
On average, 50-70 donors come to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute donation events, each donates up to 450 ml of blood. Donated blood is needed by patients during operations, disaster victims, pregnant women and cancer patients. Therefore, students do a good deed and at the same time can be tested for HIV, hepatitis B and C and syphilis.
Thanks to these activities, blood donation should become common practice among young people.
